Feeding Truth
I'm completely behind the "Starve the Beast/I'm not buying it" campaign but I also wanted to remind everyone to support the people that spoke out for us this past year. If you are looking for an idea for a gift for someone, consider buying a cd from one of the Vote for Change artists like...

REM
Pearl Jam
Bruce Springsteen
Bonnie Raitt
Jackson Browne
John Fogerty
Dave Matthews Band
John Mellancamp
Dixie Chicks
James Taylor
Keb Mo
Jurrasic 5
John Prine

This is such a wide range of artists that there is probably something appropriate for almost anyone on your list. Also, please remember and support Linda Ronstadt, Jon Bon Jovi, Eminem, U2, Tim Robbins, Robert Redford and, last but not least, Michael Moore. I like the CD "Songs And Artists That Inspired Farenheit 9/11" and I've bought a few copies of MM dvds for the movie buffs on my list. I'm getting my husband "The Essential Bruce Springsteen", "The Very Best of Jackson Browne", Pearl Jam's new greatest hits CD. My stepson is getting an Eminem cd, Dave Matthews for my niece, Linda Ronstadt for my Dad and Dixie Chicks for my brother-in-law. I bought all of these gifts at Barnes and Noble so they are extra-Blue. My personal Christmas list consists almost entirely of CDs and movies by these people (plus the DU book club picks.)

I think it's really important that we show these people that we support them for speaking the truth and for having the courage to put their careers on the line. I'd love to see them get a nice little boost in sales right when everyone is telling them they should just shut up.

2. Thanks for the tip on Steve Earle.
I checked out his CD on Barnes and Noble and it looks good. Looks like another one to add to my Wish List.

3. Don't forget Bruce Cockburn....

Canadian, but he's been concerned about the less fortunate, the situations in Central and South America, and social causes in general for MANY years. ("If I Had a Rocket Launcher" is an especially good example)

One of my favorites. "Nothing But a Burning Light" ans "Stealing Fire" are especially good.
