Dead Island skill trees for all four characters.
http://ps3.mmgn.com/Articles/Dead-Island-Skill-Trees-Guide

Dead Island came out today; I will probably buy it soon. The description of the skill trees in the article really reminds me of Borderlands.

1. I read a review yesterday that was not very good
And more are popping up:

I read another one that was wicked bad but I don't remember where :D I think I'm going to wait until I can see/here what actual people think about it.

2. I bought it last night and played for about for an hour and a half to two hours.
The bad:

The intro song is one of the worst songs I have ever heard. My wife was laughing her ass off.

The graphics are a little below average; similar to Dragon Age: Origins.

Walking around is not as smooth as the top-of-the-line shooters, such as Battlefield, but I got used it really quickly.

The good:

Decent and unique skill trees for the four characters. Pick Lock is the only shared skill.

Weapons can be leveled up.

New weapons can be created; similar to Dead Rising.

Tons of places to search, and tons of "chests."

Very bloody.

The fighting is really fun. You have to push/kick zombies down to keep them off of you. Fighting zombies in groups of over two or three can be hectic with beginning weapons. The melee fighting is better than Oblivion.

Large open world with many of places to explore.

I am loving it so far, but I will love almost any zombie game for the first two hours.

3. the kids are playing it right now
very bloody, but I don't mind that, of course.

They're both very amused. Ryan's giving it an 8 out of 10.

4. I put a few more hours in, and I have been really enjoying it.
The zombies are awesome; there are both Romero style "walkers" and 28 Days style "infected," plus some rarer, more powerful zombies.

The lighting and shadows are really good.

The sound is great, the zombies sound freaky and eager to kill you.

5. How is it compared to L4D and L4D2?...
those are still my fave zombie games.

I'll get Dead Island too, if it's as good or better.

6. I have never played L4D, but I want to.
Dead Island is a lot like Boarderlands, except the graphics are realistic, you're mostly fighting zombies, and the maps are dense.

Dead Island is a large open world with tons of looting and missions.

The version released on Steam is apparently messed up. Here is an official message about it from their website: http://deadisland.deepsilver.com/blog.php?page=1

You may want to wait before getting the PC version, but the other versions should be fine.

I have played over 10 hours I have yet to notice any glitches, but I have read about people loosing some of their save data on PS3. I always quit in the game's options menu before I turn off my PS3, so that probably helps.

7. I have played a bunch more, and think this game is great for those
who love Boarderlands and zombies.

People who are not zombie fanatics may get bored of all the zombies, and the missions are about as diverse as the missions in Boarderlands, which is to say, not very diverse.

I think the fighting in Dead Island is a little more involved than in Boarderlands, but many people don't like first person melee, and Dead Island has a lot of first person melee.

11. Here's some Gamefaq reviews...
http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/622414-dead-island/reviews

So far Dead Island received three 9/10s and one 6/10. The major complaints of the 6/10 review is the lack of story, the swearing, the four playable characters have depressing back stories, and the graphics for the humans are not top notch. All four of those things are basically true, but I don't care about those things.
