DoD: Source ... who has it?
All I can say is "Wow!" It looks great and the game play has been tweaked so that it is less an arcade shoot-em-up and a bit more realistic. Though the added kick from the autos does take some getting used to, you can still be a "Kar whore." {BTW, beware my Kar!)

1. I tried it the day it came out
But it didn't seem very stable. A tried a few servers, but they were all kinda jumpy. I ended up timing out about 5 seconds into the first game. Another server I tried went down after about half an hour.

Know any good servers?

2. The first day was madness
Too few servers, too many people. I had the same problems with it being totally unplayable. However, things are much better now. I can usually find about 20-30 servers with pings well below 50.

I've been playing at 66.29.24.112:27016 NinjaServe.org. It is FF=on, so be careful ;0

3. Longtime DoD player here...
... and I couldn't disagree with you more. I strongly feel the new DoD:S has lost exactly what set it apart from other online FPS. Skill has been set aside for a button-mashing bullet frenzy of a game.

You must be talking about an added kick on the light autos (which I've yet to play w/ around enough -- seems everyone is using them now) because whatever recoil there was on the heavy autos seems to have disappeared... which is a shame because I really loved the fact that not just anyone could use a BAR or STG -- they were powerful guns but one had to master the recoil to be effective with it.

I'm disappointed in rifles too -- I remember the good 'ol days when the bullet actually went where your cursor was aiming. I can cope with the decreased damage here but I can't stand what they've done with the accuracy of the KAR/Garand.

And no pistols... ? Except for the light autos who already have enough clips... ? Yeessh...

I've managed to hang with DoD with every change they've made since the beta days but this is the first time I feel they went way overboard with.

BTW, I'm the guy with this spray: :)

You can pick out one for yourself over at (they look great and fit right into the WW2 surroundings):
