An actual quote from an actual poster in the Health Scare Lounge
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 11:00 AM by cosmik debris
I seek out treatments that have a large placebo effect. I figure with that extra boost from the placebo effect that they are more likely to work.

I'm speechless.

2. That same poster claims that "It's a no brainer"
And I believe she proved her point.

8. I had considered rebutting that argument,
But I know of no light that will penetrate that fog.

9. Naw, it's not that strange if you just consider the idea that they don't know what the placebo
effect is.

Basically, a lot of people believe that the power of their mind is actually healing them or something, rather than the actual meaning of "there are so many correlated variables you get a complete mess if you don't double-blind".

If you thought that placebo was healing magic, and the more placebo something has the more healing magic it has, then that post makes complete sense.

12. Hey, now there's even a placebo poll!

It's actually a beautiful post - because it perfectly illustrates that poster's incredible scientific illiteracy, which has been pointed out again and again ad nauseum. I love it when she embarrasses herself.

I expect her to come back with a second grade level argument.

Stay tuned.

As R_A said above, it makes perfect sense to that poster.
