I met a 9/11 truther in person while canvassing for Obama yesterday.
It. Was. Freaky.

He wasn't on my list but he wanted to talk so I thought I'd give him a couple minutes. Big mistake!

In about three minutes he hit all the major talking points, where's the debris? the gold, the CIA, "pull it", Joos, Insurance money, etc etc. I think Peter Jennings might even be involved.

Then he went on to talk about the warmongering Republicans stealing another election, "just look what they did to Dole in 2000 in Florida."
Umm...What? Dole?

After I shook off the all of the WhatTheFucks bouncing around in my head, I excused myself and moved on. Oy. :eyes:

1. Well, as long as he votes for Obama.
Every vote counts, I suppose!

2. He did!
But he was a poster child for the nutters on our side.

Well, not exactly child. He was probably 5-10 years older than me.

3. what's worse are the dem activists who believe that shit
it usually spells more trouble if they've got the motivation to volunteer, and their thinking is just barely clear enough to do any actual organizing.

trying to talk them out of it is bad. they usually give you this blank look, like they're thinking that every dem activist thinks exactly the way they do, unless they're a traitor.

fortunately though, troofers are usually of the "we can't do anything because the joos control everything anyhow" mindset, so they don't volunteer.

4. Thankfully, I think about all he could manage to do was mail in his absentee ballot.
I got the impression he did venture far from his house.

5. Have the Troofers given up on Ron Paul?
Ron Paul showed his true leanings by endorsing the Constitution Party ticket for president. Yes that's the right-wing nationalist authoritarian Constitution Party. It was barely a couple of months ago that some DUers still gave that nutjob the time of day.

7. Tell me about it!
I used to get into more arguments about Ron Paul than about anything else. There were even one or two people prepared to defend Pat Buchanan. The enemy of my enemy isn't always my friend.

6. You meet lots of weirdos on the canvas.
I had this one lady who had some kind of Tourette's-like thing where every few sentences she'd interject "What?" into the middle. Very strange conversation. Then there was the nice old lady who tried to tell me the government controls the weather.

You have to remember you're not at their door to teach them all the critical thinking skills they lack - there's not enough time to make up for lost years.
