Last night, bout 9 o'clock, I went out to the garden and picked my first ear of sweet corn. I then boiled it up in some salted water and sat down and ate it as I watched the fire works over the oak trees from my back yard. It was the best corn I've ever tasted.

There is just nothing like it. You dug the earth, you planted the seeds, you nurtured them and now you harvest and eat them. Dirt under your nails and damp feet. It does not get any better than that.
My cukes are still the size of small, sweet pickles so they are getting there. I am astounded how big that plant has gotten. I think I will just pick them small. Next year I can deal with learning how to make pickles. The last time I tried I failed miserably and made a huge mess.
Enjoy enjoy enjoy. Being at one with the Great Mother, she is so good to us if we care for her. No nasty diseases for us.
This year I am growing corn for meal and hominy so I bought a bushel from the farmers market. We froze 49 ears and ate 3 for dinner last night. Yummy to say the least.
