What is up with this ear-worm?
Edited on Sat May-16-09 02:33 AM by Why Syzygy
:freak: It is uncommon any more for me to get something like this stuck.
I'm always silently grateful it isn't me when someone else mentions an ear-worm.
(though there is a small issue with "chia"...nuff said)

This has been going on for three or four days. Inconceivable! Just now I woke up in the middle of the night for a potty break, and it was right there! I know I was dreaming deeply because it took awhile to orient myself to person and location (no drugs).

What do you make of this?

btw: When this was released I was mostly listening to Led Zeppelin, Santana and Deep Purple.

"Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)"

She ain't got no money
Her clothes are kinda funny
Her hair is kinda wild and free
Oh, but love grows where my Rosemary goes
And nobody knows like me

She talks kinda lazy
And people say she she's crazy
And her life's a mystery
Oh, but love grows where my Rosemary goes
And nobody knows like me

There's something about her hand holding mine
It's a feeling that's fine
And I just gotta say
She's really got a magical spell
And it's working so well
That I can't get away

I'm a lucky fella
And I've just got to tell her
That I love her endlessly
Because love grows where my Rosemary goes
And nobody knows like me

There's something about her hand holding mine
It's a feeling that's fine
And I just gotta say
She's really got a magical spell
And it's working so well
That I can't get away

I'm a lucky fella
And I've just got to tell her
That I love her endlessly
Because love grows where my Rosemary goes
And nobody knows like me

Fadeout:
It keeps growing every place she's been
And nobody knows like me

If you've met her, you'll never forget her
And nobody knows like me

La la la- believe it when you've seen it
Nobody knows like me

It was a one shot wonder from an ad hoc 'band', Edison Lighthouse in 1970.

1. funny you should ask
Ay yi yi, do I ever know what you are talking about. For over two weeks I had this song relentlessly going on in my head. It was so bad I did research on earworms to see what I could do. I consciously worked on eliminating this song from my mind--and it was WORK!

I can't remember the song now and I don't want to even try. I would be scared it's coming back!

Now as far as suggestions go, I can remember a few things I read. One is to see if there's anything psychological with the song lyrics. There might be a psychological reason the song is playing in your head.

A second was to battle it out with another song. So in other words, when the tune starts playing in your head, switch your mind to another song.

2. Thanks, Cher.
The psychological question did come to mind. Yeah, when something is in your head like that, it's time to pay attention! I can't make any connections. IRL my family did move over the summer that year. I started a new high school.

I learned something interesting from rounding up the info to post. The singer who did this was a studio singer. When this song went to #1 (UK)(#5 in US), the producer had to hustle a band together to do a few performances. That was the only purpose of the band. The same singer repeated that one hit wonder method with, I think I read, eight other songs/bands. So, I've kind of been thinking about that situation since reading. As for the EW, I think it's gone. Now I just have a ghost version of Mayberry every once in awhile. But I know that's from my roommate watching it all the time and now that he's gone for a few days, it's STILL PLAYING IN MY HEAD.

3. My cure for ear worms
I discovered this after DAYS of being exhausted with an obnoxious ear worm (the "Numa Numa" song)...

a few replays of this soothing music in this Matt Harding dancing video, recalling it whenever the Numa Numa tried to worm its way back in, defeated the beast...

4. I breath light and send Reiki to my brain to heal whatever the heck it is making the jingle repeat
when it starts going I start breathing light and sending reiki. If I have time I do it for a minute or two, if I don't at least three deep breaths. It took time but as I continued to do this I got to the point I rarely get repeating songs anymore. Sometimes my guides will trigger a song memory until I get the point but with them it is not a constant repetition, just a few times a day and usually just the sigificant bit of the song that applies to the situation. For example not long ago two lines from the song Winter by Tori Amos started popping into my head. 'When you gonna make up your mind, when you gonna love you as much as I do' After a couple days I made the connection and told 'em I would work on self-esteem. The song fragment has not repeated since.

5. I was researching Spirit Guides and this was one of the topics discussed
I started a thread about it. Perhaps there is something to it.

What do you think your Spirit Guides would be telling you through this song?.?.?
