Dear febreze....
My dog just cornered a baby skunk, was sprayed and then picked it up several times in an attempt to bring it into the house...
As I put the dog on the leash, the poor little guy perked up and started wobbling away, injured. Don't know the extent of his injuries. I hope it is ok. But we can't find him.
So we are keeping our fingers crossed. We spent a good deal of time in front of the house and scrubbed the dog, with Dawn & Vinegar. At the moment the dog is in the shower...We first closed all the windows, but now they are all open...Dear febreze - please save us from this stink!
Anyone else I should address? Thanks for input.

1. Tomato juice
I've heard tomato juice is good for getting the smell out of a dog who was skunked.
In case it helps, Mary Magdalene is the patron saint of hairdressers and perfume makers. Perhaps you can call on her for help. St. Francis of Assissi is another possibility.

2. hydrogen peroxide
1 qt hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon dish soap

Leave the mix on 3-4 minutes. (Don't get it into the eyes!)
Repeat if needed. Works better than vinegar/tomato juice. May bleach the coat a bit.

3. thank you both
We got the stink out of the Newfie...but my my bedroom still stinks...I think he cornered it just right outside my bedroom window...
I guess it will take the day for the smell to dissipate.

Now that it is light I went outside before I let the dogs out into the yard to make sure, the little skunk is not lying somewhere injured..

I guess, we had another lucky encounter. :)

I don't know why we have all sorts of animal mom's pick up residence around our yard this year...or were they always around..I wonder.

Mother skunks give birth to litters of two to ten young each year, usually in May. The babies follow their mothers around for several months, leaving in late July or early August.

4. When a neighbor's dog chased a skunk up under another
neighbor's deck, my husband found an enzyme based detergent at the janitorial supply store and it worked pretty well. They had to repeat the application after it rained. The smell got into their house, though, and they had to clean EVERYTHING in the whole place--all of their furniture, carpet, clothing, linens... It was a nightmare for them.

Sorry you had a close encounter. Have you tried nag champa incense or Blue Pearl incense. It does a great job of covering up the smell after my kitty has laid a vile number in the litter box. Unless I burn incense, the smell seems to linger even after I've flushed the poop.
