What's a good cleansing regimen (also, colonic irrigation)
Anyone have a colonic irrigation before? I'm thinking of getting one for the first time. Seems humiliating to me.

Also, I want to do thorough cleansing this week. The stars seem right for it. Anyone have any advice? I made a huge batch of my vegetarian chili. I was thinking of a week of fruits, vegetables, oatmeal, dark leafy greens and lots of chili. Does that seem right for a physical cleansing? I don't want to neglect the spiritual side either. Any ideas? Wiccan ceremonies? Nude dancing under the stars? What do you all do?

1. You can make your own colonic machine
I have a friend who has, but she's out of the country now and I can't get in touch with her. I've never done one, mainly because enemas were used as punishment when I was a child, so I don't associate anything like them as something I'd want to do. My husband has done a juice fast, and I've done cleansing via Para-rid and other tablets. The Book of Natural Healing has several cleansing regimens in it you might wish to try out.

2. who'd believe we'd have colonics and
urine therapy so close together on the screen.

I highly recommend this. I did it for myself with some internet parasite-ridding regimen. My husband thought I was nuts, but it was one of the best things I ever did for myself. After years--decades!--of constipation I am now as regular as a clock. There were capsules with ground buckwheat hulls in them, I think, along with tea and some other stuff.

I also strongly recommend also taking acidophilis after you do this too, to get the good bacteria going. I read somewhere that good bacteria is expelled after only a couple of weeks, but bad bacteria hang on for a long time.

9. Eeew
My cleansing stops at drinking pee thank you very much. As to the irrigation, I've never had bowel problems, I've always been regular as a clock with no complaints at all. The scientific evidence doesn't support it I know, but it just seems sensible to flush the old bowel out now and then. I'm still gonna do it if I can overcome my shame. The practitioner I'm going to go to gives you some probiotic things afterwards. I'll do some acidophilis too. Thanks for the tip.

3. I have tried nothing like that myself but there are tons of cleansing formulas out there
you can examine or you could try the simpler things first and see if they get you the results you want. More fiber is great - beans whole grains etc. Drink plenty of fluids. Check out things to help your liver esp. if you know you have consumed things that stress it in your life. Milk thistle is a powerful healer of the liver. Some people do herbal bitters a few times a year to cleanse as well but be warned they taste horrid. I have a friend who swears by 'em but I have yet to get my nerve up to try. Maybe if I can find a capsule version I will!

For physical cleansing you can also try dry brushing before bath or shower. Take a regular bath brush and rub vigorously all over. There is supposed to be a certain order but I admit I don't bother I just brush as firmly as feels good. You can also scrub yourself with epsoms salt after and then soak. I ask the spirits of the water to wash away and transmute any negative energy and visiluze the water washing it away. I also will ground and draw in positive energy though my crown chakra down throughout my body until it washes away the bad vibes down out my feet.

If you wish to be through don't neglect clearing your living space and the land it is upon. You can literally sweep away old, stale and bad energies. If you can use smudge where you live get a smudge stick and use it to clear the house. Invite in good energy calling upon your higher power(s) if you like and again send it to the earth your home sits upon. I will sometimes take salted water and ask for blessings upon it and then sprinkle it around the house as a way to cleanse it.

8. Ha! Don't neglect the house!
I'd forgotten about my living space. That will need a cleansing too. I'm going to o the salted water ritual--I like that one.

4. Colonics can be very helpful in cleansing and for a lot of other reasons.
I think the best source for it is Reilly's book, "Edgar Cayce's Handbook for Health Through Drugless Therapy."

Reilly ran a health institute in NJ I believe for many many years and had a lot of famous clients. He also had a lot of success with colonics and he has a lot to say about them, from the type of machine to use, to what to eat when you have one.

I think it's one of the most overlooked natural nethods for healing around.

It certainly makes good sense. I had a short series recently and felt I got a lot of benefit from it. I'd recommend it to anybody who might need it, tho there are some reasons to be careful, primarily obviously if you have any tears or problems with your colon that the colonic would be likely to aggravate rather than help.

5. Master Cleanser
Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 10:42 PM by votesomemore
I've been in the same mood. I'm ready for a good cleansing.

A few weeks ago, I simply started eating one apple a day. That started the process. It made a huge difference in my digestive workings. You know the digestive tract is at least 70% of the immune system? Then a friend told me he had lost about 20 lbs by eating Activa yogurt every day. He has high blood pressure and weight gain from medications. I think Activa has a unique culture. In any event, I started that about a week ago. I find I'm losing my taste for meat and the craving for some of the junk food I was living on seems to be gone. I don't know if I've lost weight, but I know I am a lot less bloated.

I've had this book and wanted to do this cleanse for several years. I haven't because I thought as a smoker I couldn't.
Now I'm finding that might not be true and might in fact help me quit. http://www.mastercleanser.com

It is based on a lemon juice/maple syrup/water fast. I asked my homeopathic practioner, and she said this was a wonderful program. Burroughs doesn't recommend colonics or enemas. He has another method for accomplishing the same outcome. It amounts to drinking a quart of luke-warm water with non-iodized sea salt (2 level tsps) in the morning on an empty stomach. You can drink additional water. This is the same as Shankaprakshalana Kriya - Complete Bowel Wash, a yogic cleansing practice.

http://www.lightbalance.com/articles/shanka.htm

It is part of the larger ShatKriya (cleansing techniques).

Another is the neti pot, which I think that would be an important adjunct to a digestive cleanse.

7. I've heard about that
I've heard about the lemon juice/maple syrup/water fast. I'd forgotten all about that. I think it's a good thing to do for a day or two, maybe on one of the first days. I certainly wouldn't want to do it for a whole week.

Thanks for the link!

6. Yes, I've had colonic irrigation. No, it wasn't humiliating for me.
Edited on Tue Jan-22-08 06:39 AM by I Have A Dream
The person to whom I go is a registered nurse. (I think that I, personally, would only go to a female so that I could be comfortable.) I have a family member who owns a business that performs colonics.

I think that colonics are very helpful, although it's been a while since I've had one. I used to have one every 6 weeks or so, but that was probably not often enough to get the full benefit from them.

11. So I'm starting day one
I'm up earlier than usual and did 15 minutes of meditation and visualization. The oatmeal is bubbling away. I'll be drinking only water today, have the oatmeal with some bananas for breakfast, fruit for a snack a little later, chili for lunch, a salad and chili for dinner. I'll spend some time looking for recipes for kale, spinach and chard then stop by the Farmer's Market. I'll have that tomorrow I believe.

More ideas still welcome! Wish me luck and spiritual good vibes!
