Need a hand!! Secret thread in "Greatest"
Apparently Salon is dissing Oprah on The Secret.

Uh, duh. Like that is gonna work.

5. Thanks
I'm not sure they even understand the principle. They don't seem to have given it much thought. The Salon article was weird. I honestly think that is the result of all the left brain training in our schools. Anyone who uses anything intuitive at all is deemed to be anti-intellectual or something. Fortunately, this thread has not come down to name calling. Maybe it won't. I'm thinking positively.

21. I agree with you. I have my husband listening to the CD now. He likes it. It is that we are
so closed minded and can't think out of the box in this society. I am reading Deepka Chopra's "Life After Death" book. It is fascinating. A lot of the problems in our country are from the closed minded behavior. And unfortunately it comes at us from all sides.

2. I am so disheartened
I tried to participate in the thread in the Lounge (which is now over 100 posts) but I was beaten down by the sheer amount of vitriol. So I left. I usually am able to fight the good fight, but this onslaught was too much. I'm not sure I have any strength left for another Secret battle. :(

Just another reminder that the division between people who are ready for the shift and people who aren't is going to become more and more pronounced in these later years. I'm trying to remain detached about it, but I find it sad. :(

3. Yep.
I even happened upon someone bringing it up just to disparage it in a completely unrelated thread.
Sigh.
I have to remember that you just aren't ready for it until you're ready for it. Seriously.
Shall we send lots-o-light to those particular threads?
When it comes down to it; it's just encouraging people to be happy.
Oh, what a crime.:eyes:

10. Good idea
LOTS of light! And perhaps a little chink in their armor. Just a wee crack. I did manage to defuse one particular nasty argument, but my adversary probably thinks she "won" because I stopped being nasty. Whatever! As long as the bad vibes didn't continue--that's all I care about.

Yeah, I don't get it either--something to try to bring some happiness into your life--what's the problem with that idea? My best guess is that they're afraid of allowing themselves to even think that it might work because then they'd be disappointed if it didn't. You know--be cynical so you're not hurt. Or whatever the stance is. After all, fear is the worst emotion we can carry, right?

So lots of white light to the fearful...

staying out of the fray. If someone honestly wants my opinion, I'm thrilled to give it, but these "discussions" are like the vitriol in the Religion/Theology forum.

I'm not going to get upset about the negative reactions in these threads because I'm not really surprised.

Oh, and for those of you who are choosing to continue to fight the good fight in these threads, I applaud you. :)  I just don't have it in me to exert so much energy/emotion trying to change the way mass consciousness views such things. That's why I'm so happy to have this group!

6. I, too, am finding that my energy is better used on more positive endeavors
I am finding that to those who are not ready, all the argument in the world will not bring them around.

7. Which is just what I was reading
and came back over here to post in this thread. Same wave length thing.
This is from an online ebook. I just started looking at it, so am not very familiar.

With our old beliefs about a God who is powerless to prevent error are tucked away, let us consider a more empowering (and more loving) concept. Every grade in this school is essential and there are certain things that students in those grades do which are very appropriate for them to do. The Arab nations have to be fighting the way they are right now just as the Aborigines and the Wall Streeters have to be doing their thing because they are in those classes getting those assignments. If you wish to be helpful as a fourth grade teacher, you must understand how that grade functions. The fourth grade curriculum on planet earth contains many lessons related to feeling separate from God and the rest of mankind. In the fourth grade we pit ourselves against other individuals and other groups in an attempt to prove that we are right and they are the ignorant ones. We even blow them away, individually or nationally, if necessary. That is not wrong - it is simply fourth grade.

Of course you have long since decided that you no longer wish to be a fourth grader. Perhaps you have even decided that you no longer even wish to be a fourth grade teacher. When an individual feels an internal urging to give up trying to save people who can't comprehend the value of the spiritual ways of doing things, there arises an internal conflict. We often believe that it is our "duty" to save our family and friends or to fix the evils of our world even though we get worn down trying. Well take heart. There is a better way. It is the way that the master teachers taught. It is a way of bringing salvation to your family, friends and planet that is stress free. It is better than stress free. It is fun, exciting, uplifting, self empowering and energizing.

I know one of us got it from the other one. I was looking through some files to find "The Silent Language of Peace", and ran across "No Time for Karma"! Funny how those things time themselves, isn't it.

8. Who knows? It just may not be their path this life.
I guess that there are even atheists who are on the right path for this particular life. Maybe it's something that they've chosen to experience during this life rather than having lost their way on the path.

:)

11. That's what I was thinking
"I really don't need this." I really dislike when I allow myself to be drawn into an ugly poo-flinging argument (as opposed to a healthy, respectful debate). I do not want my vibration to be lowered in that way.

14. I agree...
...I just don't have the time and energy for that. I'm making an effort to distance myself from such "discussions," as they are less discussion and more "argument." People are entitled to believe what they want to, or not believe and poo-poo what they want. It's all about choice. I choose not to go there. :)

12. Lots of ugliness from people just jumping on the bandwagon and
not even trying to understand what "The Secret" is all about. The letters on salon.com are pretty nasty, too, but there are people trying to bring some light to the discussion.

I think a lot of it is just cynicism run amok -- it's 'cool' to be cynical and snarky nowadays and some of the responses to this prove it, IMO. Dumping on Oprah is a popular "sport," too, for some reason.

16. I don't care about the doubters, when you feel the positive
effects and know The Secret's value, all of this is just so unimportant. It can be a difficult concept to wrap your mind around for some. That's just life. It's either something you see value in and it touches your heart and you get it, or you don't. Negativity works for some people or they grow to like the puddle they create by it, don't know, that's their reality, not mine.

17. Ok- I'm done with those people.
I feel very sad that some...most...people will end up going through life "unconscious" of the joy they could be experiencing if they just paid attention.

But the closed-mindedness and meaness in that thread is just too much. I now vow to not bother to defend "The Secret" anymore...anywhere on this website - except of course in this wonderful forum.

19. your posts may have opened some eyes
It was not in vain. I really hate to see some of those ideas out there unchallenged. You brought some balance to the thread.

I am beginning to think that fictional stories can reach people in a way that so called self help cannot. I do sort of get tired of self help give advice books. Plus, though I like Oprah I never really watch.........

But why would a new spin on positive thinking cause such an uproar? Since this is a political site, maybe a lot of people want everything politicized. Do you have a hard life? Don't think positively, blame it on the tax code and engage in activism.

The thing is, there is room for both. It isn't either/or. And, if you want to attract positive people into your life, it is best to be positive. It is just too simple of an idea for some people to grasp.
