Tarot workers: Do you read for yourself?
I never read for myself. I did it a few times when I was just beginning to study, but I find I am utterly incapable of interpreting situations objectively when I am personally involved. Particularly when it comes to relationships, I just can't trust myself to be impartial. I have a very bad tendency to read what I want into the cards instead of accepting the truth as it comes.

I was just curious about other people's experiences with this.

1. less and less often

the more i study magik, the less i do predictive readings for myself. usually i use tarot these days to figure out options or clarify situations, or read for other people.

the best readings i do seem to be for people i don't know at all. i've found that the closer i am to the subject of the reading, the more difficult it is to be objective. what i found helps for me when i'm reading for myself is to do the reading in a ritualized way, and write it down. writing it down keeps me honest with myself.

have you ever tried just laying out the cards you want, in order to effect the future?

7. I haven't tried laying out the cards I want
But I do use cards in spell work. The Goddess Tarot, which has some non-traditional cards, doesn't really work for me when I do readings (I use the Mystic Tarot for that, it uses Greek mythology) but I use it in meditation and spell work with some good results.

I keep a journal of all the readings I do. It's useful because I like to examine past ones for certain patterns that keep cropping up.

2. Well,
I'm not a Tarot "worker" in that I don't read for profit; I've read for friends, and donated time to fundraisers.

And I don't read traditional Tarot, but other decks. I can read for friends successfully, although it is more difficult than reading for strangers. If I want to read for myself, I have to narrow/clarify the question, and just pull one card. I can get a "big picture" that way, but no details. I rarely do it; I just don't trust myself enough to be impartial. My reading friends feel the same; if we have a question, we read for eachother rather than trying to read for ourselves.

3.  I don't because I always have a negative reading if I do myself. I once r
read you weren't supposed to read for yourself anyway. Perhaps this is why!

4. I do my own almost daily.... using the Major Arcana cards only..
I just do it for myself..and consider it another tool in my toolbox.

5. I read for myself on a regular basis

As a matter of fact, I only read for 3 other folks that I am very close to because I need to share energy with someone to get an accurate reading. I don't know if I could read for someone that I didn't know.

I think the important thing to keep in mind when reading for yourself is that the cards are not absolute - they are a tool that you can use to...

* help you see things from a different perspective
* gain some insight into yourself - sometimes those "unobjective" answers can be pretty illuminating themselves!!
* give you a bridge between you & your spirit guides - especially handy for folks new to the idea of guides

8. Those are very good things to keep in mind.
That second point really resonates with me. I never thought about it in that light before. And it makes a heck of a lot of sense when I think about it--after all, a big part of tarot is exercising your subconscious. All those answers I thought were just wishful thinking provided some interesting insights into where I was at the time in my growth.

I think I'll start reading for myself more often. I just had one of those forehead-smacking "A ha!" moments. Thanks for the insight! :hi:

10. You are very welcome!!
I started off reading the cards strictly for myself - and those insights were SO very helpful to me that I can't imagine NOT reading for myself!

6. No and I don't for other individuals either.
Back when I considered it a game, I found too many times that the cards were so bad for certain individuals, I didn't want to tell them about their possible future. As for myself. I don't want to know. The only time I pull out the cards is for general reasons like questions about political or social trends.

9. I try
I also find it very hard to be impartial in reading my own cards. I'd like to get a reading from somebody else sometime soon.
