I need to order a copy of my Birth Certificate
noooo, I'm not trying to prove my suitability for Office }(

I need to correct some paperwork, and since I need to get a copy anyway---so I REALLY want to grab the opportunity to find my birth time..

I remember some time ago, an ASAHer told me you CAN get the "special long form" Certificate that includes the TIME.....

Unfortunately, I don't remember how to go about getting that long form. I found some agencies online to order such stuff, I had to do it some years ago, but it's an automated system and no box to click for the "Full Version"

Can anyone help me out?

Hope it's OK that I just popped in to ask a favor!!!!!!

XOXO :D XOXO

1. I would try contacting the hospital where you were born
You may be able to get one from their archives.

I know that some hospitals have been engulfed by corporations, and that may or may not be a factor, but they could still have your BC archived.

2. Hi Kookaburra :)
I did call them back when I needed it before, but they referred me to the large agency that does it... VitalCheck dot com, I've got it up on my tabs now..... I think 1957 was too long ago ( *sob* doesn't feel long ago to me heeee hee)

Guess it wouldn't hurt to give it another try, but if ANYONE has other vays......I'm all ears

8. Be careful, I just got a warning about VitalCheck dot com
it may be a scam, although the is one place called vitalchek and one called vitalcheck. Who knows.

But good luck on getting your birth certificate. When I got mine I found that I was born during a year when the state did not require a birth time. So, I have no idea what my birth time is and my mother does not remember. Bleh!

15. Vitalchec Inc ........
NJ has privatized vitsl records with them ( located in Tenn.) They want $51. for a lousy b certificate.............it used to be $10.
They don't use USPO but Fed ex or UPS, at a higher fee,...............another scandel uncovered.......reason our stamp price keeps going up,.......big corps all support the 2 private mailing companies............
I called the Governors office in Trenton NJ and was told to contact my home town. The clerck w there was a reasonable normal human being ( liberal) and yes I send to them with $20. MO .
Meanwhile with the time delay I have lost the original $45. I sent to the passport agency in Boston. After 90 days they keep the $ & I have to pay again.
At this point I have decided to go for a full passport instead of just a passcard to drive in & out of Canada..I might be wanting it!
Mu old never lost or replaced b cert. was good enough to get me 3 passports in my life.why did I let thelast one expire just because i didn't think I would ever travel again on my stingy SS income!

3. I think I mentioned the long form
NYS or NYC has two forms. About 5- 7 years ago, I asked for a copy of my B.C. and got a truncated version. I knew the original had listed a whole lot of information on my parents, as well as my birth time. When I got the short form, I knew it was not what I wanted. If I recall correctly, I called the office that sent me the truncated version and explained what I needed. The office said I needed the long version and sent it out to me.
My recollection is that I did not see any choice between the long and short version when I requested the b.c. It was only after delivery of the short form and a follow up phone call that I learned that there were two versions.

4. I ordered my BC from the PA dept of vital statistics and asked for the
time to be included....it was a short BC with the time of birth on it.....didn't know there were long ones...does each state have a short & long one?

p.s. All of my life until that time I used the name Virginia since it was on my baptism docs....the birth cert. listed me as Celine...had to get it changed to Virginia..I was 40 something at the time.

5. You can get the PA form on the bottom of my website

You have to specifically request the birth time

9. Hi Sanity Claws
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 01:15 PM by BlancheSplanchnik
hahah your name cracks me up :)

I was born in NYC, at The New York Hospital, so looks like you're the one to ask! I think it might have been you who replied to me about this several years ago....Thanks for your patience!!...

What office was it that you called? And aside from wanting the long version because I want to know my Rising Sign, what could I say that would sound official and convincing enough? ;)

10000000000 thank you-s!

10. I genuinely don't remember
I was born in Brooklyn and think I ordered the b.c. online from a King County office. I'm fairly certain that I did everything online because I was living on the west coast at the time.
When I got the truncated b.c., it was accompanied by something, probably a cover letter, that had a phone number. That's the number I called.

If I were you, I'd start by looking up New York COunty online and see if you can find a listing for birth certificates. Good luck!

And aren't you the lucky one to have New York, NY listed as your place of birth, instead of the comparatively gauche Brooklyn, NY!

7. It depends on where you were born.
States generally have a Bureau of Vital Statistics that keeps birth and death certificates on file. Start there, and see where it leads you.

12. I have references for Vital Stats in every state.
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 01:48 PM by stellanoir
Alas, the reference guide is decades old. All the fees back then were no more than 2 bucks. ha.

Each state has differing names for the department that has the records and that creates a lot of confusion for people. In NY they're housed at the Department of Health.

Gleaning info in that ancient reference guide, I found these current links for records for all of the burroughs of NYC (including Manhatten.)

http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/birth.htm

http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/home/home.shtml

http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/vr/vr-online-order.shtml

Be sure to ask for the longggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg form.

Good Luck with your search !

13. ... your state/county/city of birth should have a Clerks office ...
... most of them are online now and you can request a copy that way with credit card, or send a check via registered snail mail (they want to make sure you're really you). Some places make you request it in person, though, for security purposes.

14. here in california
if you weren't adopted, you can get a copy from the county where you were born. if you were adopted, you have to go to the bureau of vital stats in the state capitol to get it. YMMV

18. Thanks for the info
I've been trying to get mine. I only got that vitalcheck and it was a lot of money and there was no guarantee with it. I called the Hospital and they gave me the number I need, so I hope to go there next week and finally get my BC. I never new the time I was born and would love to know.
