disturbing "dream"
since I was half-asleep I guess you could call it a dream

I had been tossing and turning since 2am, trying to find a position that didn't hurt (fibramyalgia is acting up again)

enny-whoo -- around 3:30 am-ish I had looked at my clock, rolled over again and tried to get back to sleep...

I "heard" a voice and sensed someone standing at the foot of the bed - the "voice" said quite clearly "Squeechie's dead". I sat up and said aloud "Whaaat?"

problem is - I don't know anyone named Squeechie, nor anyone that has a pet named Squeechie. There isn't anyone or anything I know that goes by that name...

ok - some may say I misheard the name - but the "voice" was quiet loud and clear, I don't think I misheard it....

so who or what the hell is Squeechie?

1. I hate that kind of stuff
It used to happen to me all the time as I was falling asleep. I'd see stuff, hear singing and people talking. I'd usually ask my husband if he could hear it too. He never said yes. I watched as a woman was murdered in her kitchen by a man. It was so disturbing. I have watched car accidents and heard music so beautiful and with such clarity that I'd get up and open the window to see if it was outside. I used to tell my husband the words and try to express the beat. I don't know where this comes from, I only know that it is not fun when stuff that is negative gets through.

I never knew if any of the events I'd seen were real or not. I had the impression that the woman above lived in Chicago though.

I just try not to pay attention to the negative stuff anymore. I wish Squeechie the best however because in this day and age when more and more people are waking up and with the intensity of the energy that is hitting the planet you just never know whats up.

2. Probably just hypnopompic imagery
It could be some meaningful thing (precognitive or other) as any dream image could be, but seems unlikely since you don't know anyone by that name. Probably just one of those things you "know" within the context of a dream but not in normal waking consciousness.

Hypnopompic imagery is the dream-like stuff that happens as you're falling asleep. (Hypnagogic imagery is the same kind of stuff that happens as you're waking up.) When I used to have insomnia pretty badly, if I'd been lying awake for awhile and then started to have this kind of imagery, I would welcome it because it meant I was finally getting close to sleep. If I fall asleep quickly, I pass through that stage without even noticing it.

3. Actually you've got that reversed

Hypnopompic == hallucinations while coming awake
Hypnagogic == hallucinations while falling asleep

Never mind me. Just being nitpicky. :-)

4. You're right, and I found something interesting while checking it out
I thought the "...pompic" was analogous to a word which I can't now remember, which means a sort of guide who leads newly deceased people into the death experience. I'm pretty sure the word was based on the Greek word for death, but I can't remember it. But checking on the web, I found several confirmations of what you said.

In the process I found this article "Relationship between the hypnagogic/hypnopompic states and reports of anomalous experiences - sleep" from the June 2002 issue of the Journal of Parapsychology:
http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m2320/is_2_66/ai_90532944

Oh, and no problem about being nitpicky. Actually I don't consider it nitpicky to use words to mean what they really mean. So thanks.
