I'm a little bit freaked right now by my Valentine Orchid.
Edited on Fri Feb-12-10 01:38 AM by Cleita
Last year my neighbor brought me a moth wing orchid for Valentine's day. I'm not really into house plants and definitely not orchids but I decided to do my best for it. I found it a nice corner it might like, watered it and left it alone. It finished blooming in a couple of months and I basically had some leaves and a couple of stems left. I watered it now and then and wiped the leaves and mostly it sat there like a dormant house plant with glossy leaves. Well, recently it started growing some stems. I noticed that one of the stems had buds. So I went to water it tonight and the stem with the buds started moving. Now I get spells of vertigo so I thought I needed to sit down. However, every time I go near it, it starts moving or vibrating. When I move away and sit down where I usually sit in the room, it stops.

I thought I would take a movie of it doing that with my camera, but it seems to scream at me not to while it vibrated, when I lifted the camera so I stopped. I have never had such a vivid interaction with a plant before. Am I going crazy? Or, are orchids able to do things like this that ordinary plants can't? btw I had no windows open for breezes and there were no earthquakes or large machinery moving around at the time. Nothing else stationary was moving unless I brushed by it.

1. Try to find the book called..
"The secret life of plants"...sorry I dont remember the authors name.

Having had a few awesome plant experiences I would say that the plant was showing itself to you.

If you meditate upon it while it is in that state and keep formost in your mind that you love plants and will not harm it..and want to help it with the water and light it needs...it may well show itself to you.

Plant Devas can take a number of forms..usually they are seen as a pattern that hovers right above the plant and there are 45 streamers of energy that go into the ground around the roots...it looks a lot like a "bow" and ribbons on a package.

the pattern is the same shapes as the leaves and the colors will be the same as in the plant.

Sometimes a plant deva will take a more human form but it will do something to show you it is of the plant kingdom...for example a rose deva will show you a rose or be wearing a rose or the gown (if female) will appear to be made of rose petals etc.

Some people say these devas are a form that the plant fairy takes.
I have always thought of them as the spirit of the plant.

2. I do have an affinity towards the fairies, but I never have had a plant

recognize me before. I will try to communicate with the plant as you say. I do have to do some dusting to it and a little pruning for it, but now I don't know if I will hurt it doing these things. You know I weed and prune with impunity my outdoor garden space and never thought much about it. As a matter-of-fact, my roses bushes were on the schedule for pruning this weekend. I hope they don't want to communicate with me too.

3. Just tell the plant what you are going to do..and give it a few moments...
to withdraw its consciousness from the parts you are going to prune off.
If you know how, giving the plant a good "Zap" of prana/chi to seal the ends will also help.

"I weed & prune with impunity..."

I never thought about it like that before but you could be sharing something that we should ALL be tapped into.

I am still reading this whole thread but had to stop and comment ;)

4. The Secret Life of Plants by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird
:hi:

The book (and it's companion book, Secrets of the Soil) is out of print, so you'll have to find copies at used book stores, unless Amazon has copies...

The chapter that mentions devas is primarily about the history of Findhorn though there is good information about the nature spirits, too :)

21. Strangely enough I started my gardening experience fifteen years ago
with trying to figure out dirt. (I know you are joking, I think, however I'm serious because it occupied a lot of my time before I was able to grow one petunia.) I got thrown onto an alkaline, clay soil piece of lot on a slope that was barren because it had been bulldozed and there was an impending El Nino. I had to figure out in a hurry what to plant and what to do afterwards to improve my dirt. I am better at it now, but it really all begins there. And I'm still working on the dirt before anything.

25. Not joking so much as being silly ;)
Soil health is very important, and something that should be learned before doing any planting. Sure, you can go out and buy bags or even truckloads of compost, but I love making my own (or did when I had the land available.) Plus, you know exactly what went into making that compost when you finally start to use it.

I used to volunteer at a community gardening foundation (they only teach people how to set up community gardens) and learned that the preferred method for gardening was not to bother with the soil you are given. Rather, build raised beds and fill them with the soil you trust, be it bought or composted. Plus, raised beds are easier to maintain. Of course, that won't work on a large scale, unless you're growing gourmet mushrooms ;)

Another aspect of plants and gardening that people should be aware of is "weeds" and what they can tell you about your soil's health:

Weeds - Guardians of the Soil
by Joseph A. Cocannouer

It's primarily a source for farmers, but there's still plenty of useful info for the rest of us :)

"To Hear the Angels Sing: An Odyssey of Co-Creation with the Devic Kingdom." It is one of my favorites because I love plants and this book is at the heart of what you're experiencing. Her journey began as a young woman in the 1940s and it's good to see that she's still alive still practicing and writing.

Here's what she's written on the back cover.
"Yes, I talk with angels, great Beings whose lives infuse and create all of Nature. In another time and culture I might have been cloistered in a convent or a temple, or less pleasantly, burnt as a witch. Being a practical, down-to-earth person, I had never imagined that such contact would be possible or useful. Yet, when this communication began to occur, it did so in a way that I could not dispute."

I'm looking at the Findhorn Foundation website right now and the orchid is still dancing. I have to work today but have the weekend to communicate with my plant and my outdoor garden plants. I still hope to be able to get a video of the orchid moving on its own. I'll keep you posted.

12. "Audrey".
I'm kidding. (Little Shop of Horrors)

I do know that my mystery school teacher stated that the flower of the trumpet tree, placed beside your pillow at night, will cause the spirit of the tree to yank you out into an astral journey. I've not tried it.

16. that is very special..
I love orchids, and had quite a few of them for years..they will bloom at least once a year. Sometimes more.

Definitely do not over water. You can cut off the brown old stems, if they are still there and have not fallen off.

It sure sounds like it is communicating with you. Perhaps now that you gave it some water, which the plant wanted and is grateful for. :)

20. this is awesome!!
I do think it would be fun to ask the gardening group about it, and see what they say. In the Photography group, we needed an identification on an extremely weird looking plant and someone answered right away. It seemed like a pretty nice group. I bet someone there knows something about orchids.

28. I think I know what is happening now.
:-( Nothing magical. I finally noticed that when I moved in my house, it sent vibrations through the floor. It didn't seem to affect anything else but the plant and it was a delayed reaction. I tested. Step. Wait. Watch for vibration. That was what was happening. Anyway, it did make me pay more attention to spiritual matters. I was out working in the garden yesterday and remembered to talk to the plants before I pruned them. Audrey, the orchid is doing fine, really growing and budding fast. (Thanks group for naming her. :-))

... I sense there was a message there. I really do. As you know all too well, I'm sure, Spirit uses many methods to get our attention. I loved that it nudged you to talk to the plants before pruning. Maybe they will have something to share back with you.
