Anyone use a Vitamix?

My dh and I are considering purchasing one for whole food smoothies in our quest for better health. I am suspicious of reviews on vendor's site and thought I'd ask here about them.

1. OMG, I miss my Vitamix.....

I give it a rave review, but I lost mine in the divorce. I didn't want anything other than OUT. I took my daughter and left everything else, including the Vitamix.

If I remember correctly, you can make soup, too, not just chilled smoothies. Versatile machine. :)

2. I have some good friends that have one and they love it.

They even make really good mixed drinks in theirs ;)

3. I have one and it works well.

I haven't used it lately but I don't remember putting anything in there that it couldn't handle. It is a little larger than a blender and that was my only issue with it. The new ones may be more compact.

4. I've had one for 12 years...

and I love it. You can make anything with the Vitamix and it works better than any other blender that I've used in the past. We make a strawberry and banana drink (we add honey and milk) and it is the best. I would recommend it to anyone.

I've had it 8 or 10 years now.

GardeningGal mentioned that the container is pretty big. They now have a smaller container (one quart capacity) that I use most of the time.

There is another newer brand of high quality blender that people in the Cooking and Baking group were talking about some time ago. You might be able to find the discussion there, using the search function. I don't have any links handy.
