My senior cat is eating like there's no tomorrow.

She's 14 (best estimate) and has starting eating 2-3x as much as she normally does. Mainly begging for wet food, which previously she could take or leave. She's also eating from the other cats' bowls in a totally different part of the house- something she has NEVER done (one of the other cats literally tries to kill her about every other month). She's peeing and pooping normally, but she's not gaining any weight (nor has she lost any). I'm afraid this is a thyroid issue. Have any of you all experienced this your senior cat?

1. She needs to see a vet ASAP

Could be many reasons but it will take a vet to find out why and the sooner you find out what is going on the sooner something can be done to help her. I have had 2 diabetic cats and 1 or the earliest signs of it was increased appetite without weight gain. At 14 she is an elderly cat and just like in humans the elderly tend to have health problems crop up.

2. Could be thyroid, could be diabetes

Definitely take her to the vet asap. My friend's cat has thyroid problems, and that was one of the first symptoms. The cat now gets daily thyroid meds, and is doing very well.

3. I have to agree with suggestions to get to the vet.

I had a cat with hyperthyroid, and he ate constantly but lost weight. It is manageable, or curable if you can afford it. I lost my kitty to a cardiac arrest in recovery after a surgery (not related to the thyroid), but a radioactive iodine treatment had brought his thyroid to normal levels. I just didn't have enough time to know over time if all would be well with it.

If you find out it is hyperthyroid, I would share my research and experience.

Which is why I'm not concerned too about diabetes. My other cat is diabetic (has been for 10 years) so I'm very familiar with those symptoms. I can test her sugar if she begins to exhibit symptoms, but none as of yet.
