Good morning! One of our student workers just asked me a
question about a cat she just got, and I am unsure about how to answer it. The kitten is a couple of months old, and has been crying all night. She would jump on the bed and paw at her, and then leave, but keep crying. Jessie would get up and try to figure out what the cat wanted, but nothing worked. I am thinking the cat will outgrow this in time, but in the meantime Jessie is a wreck! The only thing I could say was that maybe the cat was confused or lonely in the dark. Has anyone ever dealt with this kind of thing before? Thanks!

1. lonely for another kitty?
Maybe she misses her litter mates and/or mom. Only a few months old isn't very old--even it she is three or four months. Or maybe she just doesn't know where to settle down to sleep that is safe and secure. The owner should try really hard to find a bed or fabric that Kitty likes to sleep in. My cats love to sleep on wool--an old sweater nobody wants is a perfect cat bed.

2. I agree w/ ginny
Sounds like the little one is missing her family. Was she taken from mom too soon?

3. Sometimes when my
adult cat does that, he is not satisfied until I open one of the lower kitchen cabinets so he can hide out. He does the same in the bathroom. He likes to get inside. Maybe she needs to see if kitty will go into a small space to feel secure?

4. Don't know WHY this is...
...but sometimes my owners kitties want me to come and 'hold their paw' (so to speak) while they're using the box...just "Come in and keep me company (and tell me what a good kitty I am!) while I do my business."

One of my clients had a couple of cats (also spoiled rotten very well cared for) who'd wake her up, cry and complain...
because they wanted her to come out and keep them company in the kitchen while they noshed on their dry kibble.
Seriously, this was what they wanted...they'd eat, she'd sit there (don't know WHAT she may have said to them), and then she'd be permitted to go back to bed and sleep unmolested.
