2. This made me tear up
The saying "bless the beasts and the children" came to mind. I did not know that Great Dane males are protective of their young. What a wonderful breed.

As mammals we experience love. I personally think that is true of all mammals. It manifests itself in beautiful ways.

4. It extends to Aves as well as Mammalia
Don't think we can push it as far as Reptilia. And as far as Arthropoda, seeing a butterfly breaking out of a chrysalis pushes our "awesome" button, not our "cute" button. Still, I really love any story of cross-species bonding.
