toolbars
I'm using internet Explorer6

sometimes my toolbars at the top of the page don't show up. the ones that say File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help
and the one below it that says Back, Refresh, Home, Search, Favorite, etc.

What gives with this??

1. Is is just when you click on links?
Links can be coded to open pop up windows (without toolbars). Most pop ups are small but they can be programed to be any size and resemble the browser window you are used to seeing.

3. Have you scanned for viruses and spyware?
That is always my first line of attack when I have something weird going on. It always saves me time to go that direction first plus I've never had a browser issue that wasn't spyware related. I've also stopped using IE except to test sites. Firefox is a great browser.

6. Briefly, yes...

More to the point, Firefox doesn't do anything to IE. It's still there. You can have both on your system at the same time and use them interchangeably.

The only thing FF will do is ask you the first time you start it whether you want to make it the default browser. If you answer "yes" the next time you start IE, it will ask you if you want to make it the default browser. All the "default browser" setting does is still Windows what program to use when opening an html (or similar) link from a different application or in a folder.

7. Firefox really is a nice browser, imo.
Frankly, I think it renders html more predictably than IE and has a cleaner feel as well. It's a little slower on initial launch but smooth sailing after that and quick. The only problem I've ever run into is with certain Microsoft sites that don't want you to use other browsers. In those cases, which for me have been few, you can use IE.

Netscape is also an option - my kids use it but it has some limitations. You can download both and try them out to see which one you like before you set your default and I believe it is on install that Firefox will offer to copy your bookmarks. I'm sure Netscape has that option somewhere, but you would have to look for it - I just don't recall.
