Ignoring Firefox Warnings
Edited on Thu Jun-24-10 07:46 AM by babylonsister
Has anyone ever overridden FF warnings about a site?

I need to get on the navy employment website, but keep getting the warning that the site is unsafe, yet I am getting the link to the site from several reputable sources. I don't know why the navy doesn't fix it, but should I be worried and not go there? I've tried to google for any answers with no luck.

Here's the link fwiw:

https://chart.donhr.navy.mil/

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect
securely to chart.donhr.navy.mil, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely,
sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are
going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

Thanks for any guidance.

1. As a generic response, this sort of message probably indicates some problem
with the site security certificate. The reason to take the warning seriously would be the possibility that the domain name server you're using has a poisoned cache which is sending you to a spoofed site. If you're certain about the security of the DNS you're using, the warning might not be a great concern and might merely reflect something like an expired security certificate. Can you try accessing the site using a different DNS that you're sure is secure?

4. This is the link provided on the main USAJobs site, and
everywhere else I looked. Very strange; I can't be the only one getting that message.

8. I was repeatedly getting the same warnings recently for sites that previously had no such issues
Someone here told me to check my system time. Sure enough, the CMOS battery was dead and when the power went out it took the system time and all my BIOS settings with it. The PC thought it was 2001, and thus ALL security certificates were "invalid".

5. Meh. I was on the site
And I doubt there is anything to worry about (except the implants Agent Mike will bore into your brain). It's definitely not a fake site. Go ahead and ignore the warnings. I did and they haven't come for me....yet.

6. Near as I can tell their security certificate is outdated
Nothing else seems to be wrong and none of my security settings are squawking when I go to it.

9. I second that
SSL Certificates expire and (in my experience) government agencies are the worst when it comes to updating them.
