1. .
What file extension do the files have? What operating system are you using? How big are the files? How long are the files?

Chances are, I guess, you're using Windows, in which case you probably should look at a program like this:

Free AVI Splitter

I've never used that program, but it sounds like it will do what you need.

2. Just use one of the many free file hosting services out there

Videos are usually already highly compressed (avi, mp4) so it's unlikely that further compression will do anything.

3. There are several ways to send it
Since I have a website I simply upload any large files I want to send to friends or family to my ftp space, then send them a link with a password that will let them download it (since I assume you don't want to make them public).

There are several free services that do this as well and though I have never used them you might try Googling Pando and Dropsend to see if that will do it for you.

Depending on the size of the file you might want to send them yourself by compressing the files and breaking them into smaller pieces that are acceptable to your email server, sending a separate email with each file, using Winrar. Then when your daughter receives them on the other end she can reassemble them, also with Winrar. BTW, this is the basis for how files are sent over usenet, though doing it that way makes the files accessible to everyone (unless you encrypt and password them).
