When posting pictures here at DU, how can I tell if the picture will post
or if it contains an illegal code?

1. The easiest way is to click the preview button.

2. I was trying to post an image from a google search, and went through
about seven or eight with the Preview button before I gave up. I was hoping to find out if there is a special phrase in the Properties that indicates whether you can post that image.

3. D'oh - I figured it out - the URLs I was looking at contained the google address
ahead of the original address!

4. It is best if you find a picture web site to park any pictures you want to post.

I use smugmug, but there are several free or low cost sites that would work for you. Someone or more will come by here with suggestions.
Some sites have a problem with people stealing their bandwidth, which is what you are doing when you post a link directly to a picture somewhere. Put it on a picture web site first. They are setup for heaver traffic.
