Help needed with keyboard.
I have fingernails...oh, well.

My nail just caught on the V key and pulled it off. How do I fix this? The pc is an emachines notebook. I think it can be glued back on but I don't want to use just anything.

Suggestions? Thanks.

1. I'm sorry, but
:spray:

(note, coming from someone who has NEVER been able to grow nice nails even when I wanted to - now, it is just pointless)

I have no idea - did it break or can it just snap back into place? Good old super glue would probably work, but make sure you don't drip it in the wrong place.

this is a pc and not a laptop? oh hell slather on the glue - you can get a new keyboard cheap. Thrift shops are full of 'em.

2. Well, believe me, I'm CURSED with thick nails.
They grow in with ridges all the time. I actually just took this last 15 mins. and cut them down.

Anyway, it's a laptop, notebook, whatever they're called these days. It's a key with a little suction cup thingy. I'm just afraid to screw it up all together. Maybe it's best to take it to Best Buy (east coast chain) and let them do it. I'd rather pay $50 than $1,000 for a whole new laptop.

Thanks for the rotl smilie. It made me laugh about the whole mishap.:loveya:

3. try some local repair shop
less likely to screw up - or if you can wait a while give this forum a bit more time - good folks here (or maybe post in lounge - more viewers there, plus for the entertainment value - sorry, again)

if you do take it somewhere you might want to try to back up files just in case they have some kind of "accident"

6. I don't know about laptop keyboards, but regular ones are designed
so that the keys just pull off and snap back on -- can you detect any broken pieces of plastic that make you think this isn't the case?

If it does not look broken, try to align it back where it goes and just see if you can press it back on.

At least, that's what I'd do.

Good luck! let us know
