Another thing noone told me about: hash browns
Materials needed
1 - box shredder
1 - potato
pat of butter
frying pan on med

Yup, as simple as that! :woohoo:

OMG! Hash browns rule! I went all nuts after a success or two and my favorite is...

+ 1/2 a onion chopped
+ a shredded carrot
+ after 2nd side is about done (I form 'em like burgers) add processed american cheese slice. I found Montery Jack last time and it's heaven!

Yay!

:hi:

1. Another variety (homestyle hashbrowns)
When you bake potatoes, bake an extra one or two. Store in the fridge for a day or so. You can peel them - or not depending on your preference. Cut into smallish cubes. Season with some paprika and lightly salt. Brown in lightly oiled skillet. Good with sauteed onion and/or peppers (potatoes O'Brien anyone?), cheese and an assortment of other goodies.

2. We call those "breakfast taters"
That's the way my potatos usually get used when used alone. Add some tobasco... delightful!

11. I do this - but use a mandolin to slice the potatoes then broil them
could not get any easier - and healthy

3. Oooh, I might have to try that.
Now that I have a new food processor that can shred a potato in no time flat, I need more excuses to shred things.

4. I did it with processor first

I got lazy about cleaning it and never found a practical use for the box grater.

Hint: careful not to go all happy with processor or you'll have enough hash browns for 20 servings fast :P

5. I have a 2 sided "Good Grips" grater
with coarse teeth on one side and fine teeth on the other. I find it wonderful for things like one serving of carrots for coleslaw.

If I have to grate a whole potato or two or three, I use the grater blade in my mandolne. If I have to do carrots for carrot bread, I drag out the Mouli grater.

It just never occurs to me the food processor would do it all.

13. Have to get one of those graters for my 'new' place,
as 'fancy' electronics left at 'home,' and 'foresaken' when 'husb' sold it and moved!

14. You can still find Mouli graters on Ebay
in both the old tin like I have and the new plastic. They come with several discs and I've never found anything better than that finest disc for grating cheeses.

The best part is that you'll never bark a knuckle on it.

7. I haven't met a potato I didn't love...
I especially like potatoes that have some crunch to them...extra brown hashbrowns, french fries, home fries, latkes, etc.

I crave 'em!

Yup, I agree.

My go-to hash browns are from www.Schwans.com in Minnesota. Fresh frozen potato shreds already to go. They ship and deliver everywhere now.
