Sunday Kitchen: Slow and Easy Edition
Not to hectic a day today. Just had some steel cut oats with dried fruit and nuts for breakfast. Got the weekly batch of yogurt cooking and set out to start the Sunday Gravy.

I haven't made this now but three times so I forgot about the wine. Can't buy wine in Oklahoma on Sunday, so I set out to the grocery. My choices were beef broth but the choices in the small rural grocery were slim. The was beef broth with lots of additives, beef stock flavored with things I didn't want or was already planning on including in the recipe, sparkling non-alcoholic wine, or burgundy cooking wine. I opted for the latter and it worked just fine.

While that was cooking away in the crock pot, I made a half batch of Ain5 bread which I baked into rolls just before dinner and this: http://www.joyofbaking.com/breakfast/ChocolateMarbleBread.html

The dishes are done and there is brown sugar vanilla ice cream in the ice cream maker. Bill's starting the DVD Religilous for the evening's entertainment.

Oh, and about half way through this gray, rainy, cold day, I walked out the door and slipped off the front steps. Luckily, I didn't hurt myself badly. Will probably be sore and somewhat bruised in the right hip and knees tomorrow, but no hospital run required.

Hope you all had a delicious weekend. :hi:

1. owwwww!
Be careful out there!!

I love brown sugar ice cream. I've only had it once, I think, but it was the finest ice cream I ever ate and I fondly remember it. It was a cone from a little family-operated ice cream store in Northern New Hampshire. Mmmmm.

For supper here, we had a salad of baby spinach, Rogue Creamery's Crater Lake Bleu cheese, sliced anjou pear, toasted hazelnuts, chopped, and a light vinaigrette. Followed by chicken breast in curry cream sauce and steamed cauliflower.

There are still raspberries in the garden and tomorrow I will pick them again if it's not too rainy! There are only six turkeys left out in the pen and I took a city-girl teenager to say goodbye to them yesterday. She carried on quite a conversation with one of the big hens, gobbling back and forth. She had to call friends on her cell phone to have them listen to the conversation -- lots of "where ARE you, girl?? what IS that??"

The persimmon tree is beeyootiful. I'll try to get a photo tomorrow. The leaves have turned and the enormous fruits are golden on the branches.

Most of the grapes are gone, but the ones left are spectacular in flavor. Late crop is all they say it is!

The fig trees are loaded with fruit. I'm a little turned off on them because just a few weeks ago the fruit was covered with ants that were crawling in and out. I know it's silly, but I really don't want to eat them.

Lordy, I miss those little golden cherry tomatoes. All gone.

2. I wish I could be closer
so I could come out pickin' with you. Then maybe I wouldn't be so jealous! LOL I would love, love, love to have some grapes. I got too much to do already as it is. We have some local wineries so I know they grow well here. I'm going to have to look for a local u-pick that sells the grapes somewhere.

I love your salad, too. Made Bill one similar to that for his lunch on Friday. It came back with most of the goodies still in the bottom of the bowl.
