Wet Nuts....I swear it's not a sex thread!
Growing up in NY/NJ my SO and I occasionally pine for Wet Nuts. I know I can buy the little bottles near the ice cream toppings but they aren't really very good and don't really satisfy our longing. I've been thinking about surprising him with some homemade...and came across this recipe but I'm a little confused. I would never have imagined the Milk in the mix.

Ingredients
1 cup white Karo
1 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups walnuts or pecans (whole or chopped)
Directions
1Bring Karo syrup, brown sugar, butter and milk to a slow boil over medium heat, stirring well.
2Lightly boil for 5 minutes and then remove from heat.
3Add vanilla and nuts, stir well and allow to cool.

Does anybody have a tried and true Wet Nut recipe?

1. I have some ideas

but I'm not even going there in public...

Nevertheless, let's just say they're tasty.

Recipe is here:

2. Milk?
In NE PA, we too enjoyed wet nuts, and I've gotten into some strange situations when I ordered my ice cream with wet nuts. Like in Alabama back in the late sixties.

But, milk? I don't know what that would be like, but it's not like the wet nuts I grew up with.

I've never fixed my own, although you've given me the idea. I found this on my favorite food site, and, without the ginger, it might be closer to what I remember:
