What's for dinner? ~ Wednesday the 25th
I think tonight will be Bill's insanely delicious Ham & White Bean soup with fresh Ain5 or maybe a focaccia recipe I'm testing.

Ham, white beans, celery, carrots, onions, with garlic, pepper, seasalt and bay leaves in a chicken stock reduction. It cured me of my aversion to white beans. It's soooo good.

Whats for dinner where you are?

1. I love bean soup - can I come over for dinner?
:-) We're having store bought frozen cheese ravioli, jarred spaghetti sauce, Caesar salad and garlic bread.

Lots of work to do out on the property before the rain starts. Need something quick to eat.

2. Absolutely! We're making a big pot.
We (meaning Bill) have so much work to do outside it's unbelievable. We want to list the house soon and most of our garden is dormant right now. The yard is a mess.

3. Beef stew
I plan on going back out in the rain and working on car. Stew will be so good even if I err. :D

28. I fixed the car
came into the house and smelled that stew everywhere. Hopped in shower to warm up (did I mention it was raining and 35 degrees) then I got a bowlful of stew and got in my spot.

I would have never moved if it weren't for the dang dogs wanting fed.

30. With three cats all wanting things at different times, I am
in perpetual motion. Glad your car is all better. Hope you're warm and relaxed about now. I'm a slacker. I'm still doing dinner dishes. :)

31. The dishes will wait for me
I have had many thoughts today... in reguards to cooking.

I was reminded of the dimension to "assemblage" vs "collage" and the details to perfume making.

The first was from DU, the latter from the movie Perfume.

Did I mention.... the dishes can wait? :)

16. It was.;)
I had so much lettuce this year that I gave about 10 bags of it away, along with some arugula and collard greens. Next winter I might try to sell some.

12. Hope it's not too rough!
Best anti-cold thing you can do though. Fry the germs with pepper sweat. :) You wont be sick anytime soon, unless the peppers hurt ya!

18. The peppers we grew were good, but a mite "unpredictable".
One pepper might be mild while its neighbor might be wild.
Well, at least the meals we make with them are never boring ;).

Gonna lay some baby bellas with in the bottom of a casserole and top with nice thin asparagus spears, pour over a little melted butter then top with a mix of crab meat, shallots, cheeses, breadcrumbs, and bake. Serve with green salad and Ain5 bread.

Bill would no doubt love your bean soup. I'm getting a little better about beans, myself.

Enjoy! :hi:

19. We slouched out, and ended up
at what has become our favorite hangout, the local trattoria,, where we swilled a swell Shiraz and nibbled on their marvelous bread with olive oil and fresh garlic, all minced and lovely.

We dined on white pizza with clams and a big, fat calzone. We got halfway through, because their portions are HUGH!!111!! And their wood-burning fireplace not only produces the best crusts and bread and calzones, strombolis, but it's awfully pleasant to sit by the crackling fire, sipping wine, listening to Sinatra, and just being happy and hungry.

As we were leaving, the waitress brought us a bag with three small loaves of their bread, individually wrapped, since she remembered we liked it, and then a couple at a nearby table sent their bread, all wrapped up, too, over for us, since they weren't bread-eaters, but had noticed how much we had enjoyed it.

Then we all got to talking, sat down with them, ordered more wine for all, and spent another half-hour just chatting. Surprise - they're big Obama fans. We had a sweet time. We all agreed we'd go home and write our representatives to tell them to back Obama's budget.

This place, Edgardo's, just brings out the best in everyone, like a good hangout should .............................

25. Broiled Turbot
Broiled Turbot fillets, mashed taters and mixed salad. Plain but still tasty.

I've had a hankering for ham and bean soup but haven't fixed it yet. It's going to snow tonight and tomorrow, so maybe I can put the crockpot to work. I'm sure I have some Penzy's ham base and canned beans for a quick deal. Hope you enjoyed yours tonight! :D

27. It was wonderful! Your fish sounds yummy too.
Soup would be good if snow is heading your way. Our winds are picking up in East TN. I haven't checked the weather but I expect we're in for some fun too.

29. I was going to make big chicken stir fry...
...but the package in the freezer that I thought was chicken breasts turned out to be catfish filets.

Hmm. Catfish stir fry? No ga da.

Fortunately, I had made a pot of black bean soup during the day, and had some leftover rice in the fridge. So everyone had black bean soup with rice and cheese and salsa and tortillas. I ended up less than happy because I can't take that many carbs I am SICK of eggs and cheese right now and didn't want that. I finally ate a can of stewed tomatoes.

Now I'm hungry.
