Crap, I'm tired.

My partner is the city leader for Drinking Liberally, and he hosted an "End of the Error" party at our Drinking Liberally bar. (They let people carry in food, even homemade.)

He decided to do a New Orleans theme, as that was the city most, shall we say, left behind by the former administration. On Saturday, we went to the restaurant supply store for bakery boxes, cupcake liners, paper goods/utensils, and a disposable, split-pan chafing dish setup. (Emerged with a lot more than that, but that's usually the case.)

Baking Sunday and last night. Prep this morning. (Oh, then I went to school for a meeting and watched the inauguration from there.) Cooking this afternoon. (And an evening class.)

Today, we made what amounted to 9-10 quarts of red beans with andouille sausage, and 6-7 quarts of vegan red beans (we used a little olive oil, smoked paprika, vegan worcestershire sauce, and smoked sea salt to make up for the lack of meat) and brought the rice cooker and just kept cooking rice. Someone else brought in another crock pot (3-4 quarts) with their red beans.

I also made some vegan thirded bread (no real recipe), and 72 cupcakes (some chocolate, some vanilla, which my partner and I frosted this morning with red, white or blue buttercream frosting). An attendee contributed a pineapple upside-down cake. (I attempted last night to make some cornbread, which was Awful with a capital A, so it did not attend the party.)

The event started at 7. The food was mostly gone by 8 and completely gone by 8:30. There were approximately a billion people at this party. I can say with certainty I've never cooked for this many people at once--and we got some great feedback (including one person who told us to sell the beans and rice at a restaurant).

1. No doubt!
That is a shitload of work! Give yourself a little breather and enjoy this the first day of the return to sanity!

And about the cornbread, give yourself a well-deserved pass. Sometimes you work that long and hard in the kitchen, you're bound to hit a wall!
