2. I used to find antique cookbooks in New England
at flea markets and junk shops. I'd copy the best stuff out of them and then pass them along to serious foodie friends. I noticed a few of my old friends on this list.

Mostly they were fun to read for the food fads of the day. At the turn of the last century fibre was considered extremely unhealthful, so all recipes called for fresh vegetables to be boiled for at least an hour to break it down(!). I wonder what they'd say about our bran muffins today.

However, they weren't all candidates for The Gallery of Regrettable Food and there were a few real gems here and there, mostly in dessert recipes.
