Most bizarre restaurant
I'd forgotten about it until roadkill swung up in a conversation with my son (no, he was just suggesting how to protect the animals from getting hurt). Then I remembered this place.

It's a small chain. Why it never got larger is, my gosh, simply hard to understand.

These actually exist. I ate at one once. They have a recording that plays every 12 minutes or so that is the sound of brakes squealing followed by a thump (which does get old after a while).

This is the menu:
http://www.road-kill-cafe.com/roadkill.html

All kinds of wonderful things, from "Chihuahua Chili" (shivers when it bites) to "Smear of Deer" to "Rigor Mortis Tortoise" and "Airbrake Owl"

(in reality, it's innocuous stuff like stuffed mushroom caps or whatever).

It takes forever to order because you have to ask the waitress what every damn little thing is.

It is a bizarre experience. Worth a trip. Two trips, though, I'm not so sure about.

2. It's not real roadkill?
That's kind of funny, I'd heard of the place and just assumed it was. I guess cause I've indulged in a bit of roadkill before ... so it seems kind of weird to just use it as a menu/naming gimmick.

10. lol - "cause I've indulged in a bit of roadkill"
Sorry but that sentence alone made signing in to DU worth the effort for me today.

FTR - so have I. It's how I've managed to taste rattlesnack. Not that the part about it being roadkill is something I confess to much. :)

3. Mine is a combination Vietnamese restaurant
and car inspection station. I patronize both sides of the business.

The restaurant has the best food in town, period.

4. I think I just posted on most bizarre restaurant
but when I worked in Hanover, NH, I failed to take a picture of the most bizarre juxtaposed pair of businesses ever.

The sign was (may have the name wrong here) "Evergreen Cemetary" and I walked by it every day, but underneath was the secondary "Wastewater Treatment Station".

Which actually blows away another name combo from another town I lived near (Plymouth, NH) where someone bought a hair salon and renamed it "Curl Up and Dye", not realizing until they took possession that it was across the street from a funeral parlor.
