Unplanned, impromptu, never-to-be-repeated shrimp and macaroni supper.
I was at the store today. They had five pound bags of IQF 21/25 gen-yoo-wine US of A Gulf of Mexico shrimp on sale for $44. I thought that was a fair price for wild caught shrimp from the boats of US citizens. To say nothing of the fact that Gulf shrimps are just abut the sweetest around. And these, as it turns out, were remarkable.

The underlying macaroni was Barilla penne rigate.

For the condimenti .....

Sweat some garlic in olive oil until it is just this side of brown. Add the shrimp, peeled and deveined. Saute the shrimp **just barely** done. Remove from the oil and garlic and set aside in a warmer (or a warm place).

Add flour to the olive oil to make a thin roux.

I used seafood base, but you could just as easily use bottled clam juice. Add it slowly to the roux and stir. When all the stock is incorporated, add a generous amount of chopped fresh basil, oregano, and parsley. Keep warm over a very low fire.

When the macaroni is about a minute or so from done, add the shrimp back to the liquid and turn up the fire to heat it.

Drain the macaroni. Dump the sauce on it. Add an amount of fresh herbs that is equal to what you added to the liquid. Stir to mix it all up.

We had this with a really, really, really nice unoaked chardonnay.

I'm uncomfortably full.

Sparkly's savoring the last of her wine.

5. kudos to you for supporting our own shrimpers
I refuse to buy foreign caught shrimp, and yet never see any American wild caught. Shrimpless.
