1. I was in Beijing three years ago,
and there was MUCH resentment about this issue.

I dislike plastic ones and the disposable ones. I like good hardwood (not laquered), and bought a bunch.

2. Reusable hardwood or bamboo...
Bamboo actually makes the most sense - bamboo's a carbon sink, compostable, washable, and semi-disposable. I could see using the same pair of bamboo 'bashi for 2-3 days, washing them between meals, then disposing of them. Especially if they could be put in a separate container for disposal that would take them to a power plant or composting facility.
