If you do, do you like it?

1. We have a very similar unit ...... A B-10

The water goes in the top front, where you can see that little hatch cover thing above the switch. The brewer holds an amount of water inside that is equal to that which you pour into it to brew. The cold water displaces the stored water, which is already heated to brewing temperature. The result is .... no wait time for the brewing to start.

Is that how yours works?

We liked ours just fine. It didn't make coffee any better than any other maker, but the speed was a big help first thing in the morning!

2. We don't have a Bunn
But I wanted to get one for hubby. It's the old deal of wanting to get a regular coffee pot that makes a *hot* cup of coffee. he's always sticking his cup into the microwave to get it hotter. I won't be linking it to a water supply. And I see that this one doesn't require it.

Love the graphic!

3. The one I have doesn't need a water supply either.
It functions as a pour-over.

4. They make a B10B for high altitude
Maybe that's part of our problem. We're over a mile high here. Perhaps the thermostats don't work well enough for us up here.

I even found an online store that offers it with the rounded glass pot like the commercial Bunn pots. I think that's the one.

5. you might want to take a look at the
Technivorm KB471 Clubline

It was mentioned in the last Food and Wine mag and recommended because "this Dutch import heats water rapidly to exactly 200 degrees, the perfect coffee-brewing temperature"

I am also in the market for something that makes "hot" coffee. I have a Cuisinart that grinds and brews but I am not happy with it.

It is a bit pricey - $230, but might be available cheaper on-line. I have not looked yet.

6. I had a Bunn GR10 & have just replaced it with a Presto -
Scandinavian Design - http://www.gopresto.com/products/products.php?stock=02830

I've seen this compared to the Technivorm but cheaper ($46 with shipping from www.costco.com) Check this website for lots of reviews and feedback: http://www.coffeegeek.com/

I was in love with my Bunn for the first year - it made hot coffee FAST. Another feature is that it reheats the water in 15 minutes. As long as the water is really hot, the fast brewing time doesn't seem to impact the coffee brew but I started noticing that even several hours later, the coffee was lukewarm and weak. After I had several coffee drinking friends over in January and couldn't get a 2nd pot made (that I would serve...) I called Bunn.

While they were friendly, they didn't know about this problem and let me know that my model was under recall for a fire hazard. My options were to send my Bunn back for repair (several weeks without a coffeemaker or buy a replacement)or to purchase a Bunn NHB at half the full retail price. I almost did that until I found out that I had to mail them MY machine first, then they would send the replacement. At that point, since I'd be buying another machine anyway, I looked for alternatives. I didn't go with another Bunn because I was really unhappy with the customer service or lack of it. They didn't seem to understand why I wasn't willing to go a couple weeks without a coffee maker.

I've had the Presto about a month now and have been happy with it. Makes good, HOT coffee in the more normal 8-10 minute range.

7. Thanks so much for your thoughts and sharing your experience
I'm beginning to wonder if part of our problem is that our tap water is pretty cold here in Colorado. So my best bet is to get a coffeemaker that heats some water and keeps it ready for brewing.

We've had all the popular brands and probably even had a Presto or two over the years. I can't recall any real problems with them until they would suddenly die on us - the usual problem. Good luck with yours and thanks again!

9. Check out the coffeegeek link in my post -
There are reviews and reader feedback on every kind of coffeepot imaginable. You may also find someone else from Colorado who can help with altitude specific issues.

As I said, I loved the Bunn for the first year. I think the heating element must of been going bad because it took longer and longer to reheat the water. If I weren't getting so cranky in my middle-agedness, I probably would've gotten another Bunn. But I don't tolerate corporate customer service (really an oxymoron!) very well anymore...

Good luck in your search & let us know what you get!
