Soy Coffee
I laughed when I saw it in the window of my health food store, but I was actually in the market for an alternative to decaf. The acidity from decaf kills me.

Always game for something new, I paid 10 for a 3 oz. package of "Soyfee" (horrible name). I had previously spent $10 for a 4-oz package of decaf organic coffee beans, so it seemed reasonable to me.

The taste? OK, maybe it's just me but I think it's better than coffee.

I've been drinking it for about six weeks now and I'm quite happy with the change.

Has anyone else tried it? I'd be interested in your reaction.

1. What's the point?
If it tastes better, that's one thing, but soy is used to promote products that are animal-free (vegan/vegetarian alternatives). It's not like coffee is.

All I can think of is that even goes further in eco-fairness and takes all money away from the poor crop farmers altogether.

SOOOO... I had to go to their website....

- They claim it tastes better than coffee
- They claim it's caffeine free
- They claim it's carb free (I don't know if coffee has carbs - does it?)
- They claim it's pure protein
- They claim gluten free (and wheat free), for those allergic.

They do have a page about "Why soy coffee" but it was convoluted treatise on the farming process, when I really wanted to read "why soy coffee and not regular coffee".

Maybe I'll try it. I personally hate coffee myself, but if it's caffeine free and "better", maybe so.

Agreed, they do have to make some improvements to the choice of marketing names.

2. the point for me
Is I can have "coffee" but no problems with stomach acidity. This is a big problem for a lot of people, so I imagine they sell a lot of it to people like me.

Even if there is no caffeine, it still performs a "wake up" function for me, even if it is psychological.

3. But without caffeine?
WHat is it... the protein rush? (which could do it, I guess).

4.  heavy-duty psychological!
Even when I was drinking decaf, I would need it to wake up. I would be groggy until I had my decaf. It's the same with the soy coffee. After I have a cup, I'm "alert." ;)

5. Depression Coffee
Soak chickpeas in water for 8 hours. Drain and spread them on a cookie sheet and toast in a 300 degree oven. The darker you toast them, the richer the taste, but don't let them go from brown to black! Stir them often while roasting them, make sure they roast evenly.

Grind and make like regular coffee.

I discovered this by accident, actually fooled my ex with it when I ran out of coffee beans one day. I later found out this was the way they did it in the Depression, when coffee beans were like gold for most folks, completely out of reach.

6. Do you get soy isoflavanoids
or what ever they are called from drinking this? They are supposed to be great cancer fighters, etc.

So far, I have not been able to give up coffee. I drink a big mug as soon as I can after waking in the AM. I have tried to switch to tea, but it is not the same :(
