ARRGGHH, I guess hubby will have to use the Netbook
I went ahead and got Word for the Mac today, as he works on a windows machine and silly me, I thought that he'd have an easier time using Word for the Mac.

Now for those of you thinking, but the horror? Well the horror is that while Word for the Mac has a wonderful maccie look to it... well to somebody coming from the Windows version, especially after the 2007 version... it is like coming to a foreign place.

It also told me just how different the markets are... got the Student edition... and the installed templates do NOT include any of the usual suspects you may need for well you know, writing a paper... no problem. Downloaded the manuscript template from the ... main microsoft site. But to those folks (like my hubby, I love him but) who are not at ease with computers that much... so if you think that Word will look the same regardless of platform... not really.

And yes this means I will need to re-learn how to use this program in a second platform.

Oh well, at least I will no longer have to play the export to format game... SO there is a plus side to this.

Oh and on a personal note, if I had to switch a workforce from one to the other environment... that would give me pause. Hubby is like most cubicle drones to be brutally honest. Most don't move that easily from one to the next...

1. i'm not a fan of word for mac
but i'm in grad school, and its great to have file formats that work with the professors, so I don't fuck up my page formatting.

And, though I hate to admit it, I have yet to find a powerpoint maker better than, well, Powerpoint. Excel is great too.

But, then, there's been no real competition for YEARS, so who knows what that would have resulted in developing

2. I told him today, and that the interface looks different
it is actually a mix of Word 03, and maccie with a little of word 07 in there... just weird...

I will get used to it fairly fast, but I move from OS to OS to OS like nothing. He don't.

3. As someone who's always used Microsoft Office for Mac at home and for PC at work

I can sure relate to this, LOL!

I just finished installing my 2004 version on my newly acquired Mac Mini (thanks to the Apple Rosetta feature). It asked me what version I was upgrading from--on a new computer? I had to exhume my poor old "Mac-enstein," drill down to the partition where I ran Photoshop on Mac Classic, and make a copy of my Office 98 app folder!

P.S. Speaking of Photoshop, my 5.5 version won't run on Intel and is too old to qualify me for an upgrade discount. So I guess I'll be Gimp-ing it for awhile.

4. You will like the GIMP
And that one does not change regardless of platform... though the next version is expected to be completely overhauled
