Cut and Paste
Trying to figure out how to cut and paste jpg images into message boards on my eMac with no luck. It is a desktop and I believe it is a 2004 os x but not sure. My knowledge of computerese is limited so hold my hand. I've had a few folks talk me through it but all attempts have resulted in image leaping off message board back over to jpg on screen. Not having any problems with text. Thanks.

1. Is the jpeg image already posted somewhere on the internet?
That's the way it needs to be for many message boards, including this one. Bring up the image in your browser (usually control-click or right clicking will bring up the correct options), then copy and paste the url into the message.

I'm probably missing a step. Do I need to pull the jpeg over onto the screen? You do it once and it will probably seem self revealing. Here is another attempt: Failed

4. U R N00B!
However, we all were once and I am here to help.

Let's start with Poiuyt's image that he has posted in his reply. Control click on his image. (or right click. But I would bet money you have a stock mouse)

The contextual menu will pop up a list of options. Select "copy image location."

You will get: "h+ttp://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-9/824674/poiuyt.jpg"

You paste that into the DU message box to get the image--minus the + sign I added so that the image doesn't show. like so:

Try that.

5. NOOB and Computer illiterate
You are right I have a stock mouse with single click. I don't know what 'control click' means but I think I'm on the verge with your help. I'm not getting the contextual memo that offers the "copy image location". I think that is the key/problem. Once accomplished it will be a 'duh' moment I suspect. Thanks. I've pulled poiyut's image off to the side, awaiting further instructions/assistance. For a long time I resisted the computer and received this as a gift four months ago. English major.

7. OK!
The "control key" is the one to the VERY bottom left of your keyboard it says: 'Ctrl'.

Now when you are in this thread take that mouse of yours and put the pointer over poiyut's image.

Now hold down that key. The 'Ctrl' key. While doing that click down on your mouse button.

You should have a menu pop up on screen. Do you see "copy image location" ?

Report back to me after you have done this.

RIGHT NOW!

8. So close!
You pasted (remove '+' sign):

h+ttp://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-9/824674/poiuyt.jpgpoiuyt.jpg

instead of:

h+ttp://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-9/824674/poiuyt.jpg (this would have worked. don't go adding stuff.)

14. Try these two.
this is kinda what you should see when your are copying and pasting:

do either one of these and don't worry about it. Doing comes first, understanding later.

I've yet to see the phrase "copy image location" anywhere. My head will explode in approximately 3 seconds.

15. Never been able to get
"copy image location" that is the key. The only way I was able to get poiuy's image to function was to manually type in the URL which you had located. When I hold down control and click no such option pops up it is just 'copy poiuy" that shows. otherwise I've got it, I think. Any tips?

17. AHA! I think I got it.
Lemme guess. YOU ARE USING SAFARI!?

Well, that's different.

Is there a "open image in new window" option or something like that?

Open the image in that new window and copy the URL from the address bar and switch back to the window where you were wanting to paste it. (i.e., the DU Message box)

Think about downloading Firefox. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

The contextual menu is what I posted above.

19. Simple to do in Safari:
1. Press and hold control, and click on an image.
2. A menu will pop up, choose "Open Image In New Window" .
3. The picture will do just that, open in a new window.
4. Highlight the URL in the new window.
5. Go to Edit and "copy" the URL.
6. Post the image where you want Edit, "paste".

Your image will appear:
