Call them what they are: "Medical Miscarriages"
There are two types of "abortion;" spontaneous and medically-induced.

But when a woman's body subconsciously rejects a fetus, it is called a miscarriage not a "spontaneous abortion."

Following that logic, when a woman makes the conscious decision to end a pregnancy for her mental or physical health, it should be referred to as a "medical miscarriage." This is especially true for late-term procedures.

Medical miscarriage is a much more accurate term for what a woman endures when she makes the choice to end a pregnancy.

If we change the terminology, then perhaps all women will be given consideration and sympathy due to them when their bodies either consciously or subconsciously decide to end a pregnancy.

abortion was medically necessary. In purely medical terms, elective abortions, where the decision is made when there is no medical necessity for it, would not be considered medically necessary.

ETA: I understand your reasoning and it makes sense. I'm simply trying to point out that, medically speaking, it wouldn't be considered correct and, therefore, it is not likely to be adopted by the medical profession. Now, as to whether we could change that perception by the profession, that might be a possibility. However, they're pretty slow to change things like this.

3. It only implies that the miscarriage was medically induced
Even if a pregnancy is ended electively, the procedure is still performed by a medical professional.

Any procedure that ends a pregnancy and isn't performed by a doctor should still be called an abortion, i.e. backalley abortions.

2. A good way to frame it
Wait until the religious nutjobs find out that God is the most prolific abortionist of them all.
