Giant turtle's demise the fault of humans
Humans helped drive a species of giant turtle to extinction almost 3,000 years ago, according to study in PNAS.

It is one of the first cases that clearly shows that humans played a role in the demise of the giant, extinct animals known as "megafauna".

An Australian research team discovered turtle leg bones - but not shells or skulls - on an island of Vanuatu.

The bones date to just 200 years after humans' arrival, suggesting they were hunted to extinction for their meat.

"It's a really lovely example - you have this amazing beast that's been around for tens of millions of years surviving as a relic population on this island. Then these people arrived and they basically disappear in a couple of hundred years,"

1. Same concept as those dipshits out west in the late 1800's that killed 99.9%
of the Bison, and the whalers that took about 80% of the whales. And todays dipshits that have removed 90% of the fish and shellfish from the oceans.

Man will get his during the next supervolcano.

2. You and Dr. Sagan are darn right
You hit the nail on the head.

Let me come to your front yard and remove 90% of your grass. Don't worry, I'm sure it'll grow back. (wink, wink)

Next day, I'm at your neighbor's house removing 90% of his front lawn. Don't worry, I'm sure it'll grow back.

How long till the grass is dead in your entire neighborhood? Now multiply my stupid behavior by 25,000 or more people doing exactly the same thing.

And the dredging nets they use scrape the bottom of the sea floor, destroying any corals or other habitat that there may be to grow baby fish and replenish the fish populations in that area. And the nets kill indiscriminately.

It's as if we are trying to destroy the fish resources.
