Researchers Provide Solution To World’s Worst Mass Poisoning Case
It is estimated that over 70 million people in Eastern India and Bangladesh, experience involuntary arsenic exposure from consuming water and rice; the main staple food in the region. This includes farmers who have to use contaminated groundwater from minor irrigation schemes.

It is estimated that for every random sample of 100 people in the Bengal Delta, at least one person will be near death as a result of arsenic poisoning, while five in 100 will be experiencing other symptoms.

Now, researchers have created new low-cost technology to provide arsenic-free water to millions of people in South Asia...

3. where? (just curious)
I ahould have excluded newspapers and some other forms of print media, as there remain a few very good ones out there. Clearly, we will never hear about this on the "tv machine."

4. The NY Times talked about arsenic in Indian water...
years ago.

There were a number of "no good intentions go unpunished" pieces over the years about how international aid groups were so happy about the wells they dug, at first. Nobody thought to test the water before distribution. (Or had the money to test.)

Then the shit hit the fan and the search was on to find the money to either clean the water or drill safer wells. Just closing the wells was not an option since there was no other water.

And, um, yeah-- I never, ever turn on the TV if I actually want to see real news. TV is good at doing documentaries or immediate coverage, but it just can't squeeze real information into its segments. TV news is either bullshit filling dead air or a quick gloss over a big story-- rarely anything in between.

(OK, I admit I watch PBS' The News Hour and 60 Minutes)
