Dubai to get 'moving' skyscraper
Construction of the world's first moving building, a 80-storey tower with revolving floors which give it an ever-shifting shape, is due to begin.

The Dynamic Tower, which will be built in Dubai, will feature 80 pre-fabricated apartments, spinning independently of one another.

"It's the first building that rotates, moves, and changes shape," said David Fisher, the tower's architect.

"This building never looks the same, not once in a lifetime," he added.

The innovative, 420-metre (1,378-foot) building's apartments would spin a full 360 degrees, at voice command, around a central column by means of 79 giant power-generating wind turbines located between each floor.

1. An example of too much concentration of wealth
I am all for innovation and stretching the limits on science, engineering, medicine and architecture. But this is just a stupid flaunting of wealth.

2. When I read the headline
I thought they meant the whole building would move. Thought it would be the perfect thing for con men who needed to change their address often.

the people in Dubai he talked about how well they were doing, and that bush was a bad president because America was not doing as well.

5. I wonder how the movement costs and cooling costs balance?
If they're rotating such that it shades the sunward parts more effectively...

6. I for one think it's a neat idea
Problems with Dubai aside, it's nice to see more skyscraper designs that are creative rather than square boxes. Can you imagine a constantly moving, shimmering skyline full of those things? It's energy self-sufficiency is fascinating as well.
