Tornado mega disaster simulation to be aired

Prepare for the warming world:
http://dsc.discovery.com/tvlistings/episode.jsp?episode=1&cpi=25038&gid=0&channel=DSC

At two miles wide with speeds of over 350 miles an hour
a mega tornado would reduce downtown Dallas to
a war zone within minutes. Scientists know it could happen
- we show you how.

2. I'm wondering, as others on DU have, WHAT the weather channel is
doing with this blatant fear-mongering. "IT could happen tomorrow"
well, IT could also never happen, or happen 10,000 years from now. and there is not a damned thing we can do about it.

3. I think it's human nature to wonder about extremes. I'm fascinated
by the scenarios just as I'm fascinated by "what if" scenarios in history.

4. I'd guess it's more because it's entertaining, than because it's scary.
Another manifestation of the "eternal shark-week" effect. It's hard to run a single-theme cable channel without becoming boring. Most of the single-themers end up focusing on a small set of cash-cow themes. No surprise, for the Weather Channel, it's got to be weather disasters, real or imagined.

(Plus, it's really going to happen)

5. Anybody remember Hurrican Wilma? It's eye was 4 miles wide.
In 24 hours, it spun up to a cat-5 hurricane with a super-tight core. Exploring the fuzzy boundary between hurricane and tornado.
