Vitamin D and Everything
http://www.insinc.com/onlinetv/directms13oct2005/softvnetplayer.htm

The above is a very interesting lecture making the case that we need way more vitamin D than is officially recommended, ranting about the lack of publicity/money for studies, and relating it to a wide range of health problems--osteoporosis of course, but cancer, immune system goofups, autoimmune disease such as multiple sclerosis.

It is approximately an hour long. I just had it on while I was doing other things. Good stuff re: diabetes and insulin resistance at the very end. According to him, "play the odds". Nothing *bad* happens at 4000 iu per day and a lot good "could" happen.

Don't shoot the messenger. Just trying to give a quick summary for those that don't care to go to the trouble to listen to the whole thing. He lays out the evidence-- a lot of it, but he admits mostly circumstantial due to lack of funding for studies.

2. Exactly
But aren't we supposed to slather our bodies with sunscreen? I would say about half or more of the lecture is about sun exposure and lack of it, latitudes, effects of winter, where primates live, where human life developed, skin color, clothing, etc.

One thing I guess I hadn't thought about was where the sun's rays are on the electromagnetic spectrum in winter. Yes, I knew the sun was at an angle and therefore one couldn't get burned. But almost all the ultraviolet light is blocked in the USA. Again there are a lot of visuals about latitudes. Some of the studies are about various diseases and their associations with different seasons. I think he cited some studies on tanning beds too.

I was aware of a whole lot of this stuff anyway, but it was great hearing it all together--and I learned a lot. There was some information about multiple sclerosis lesions that I had not heard. I also didn't know the actual amounts needed.

And you think WE at DU rant and rave about MSM. This guy did his share of that.

This is an impressive lecture.

3. I gave this a recommendation.
After watching this I realized how incomplete the information about Vit D is. I knew most of it already, but seeing it all together was quite impressive. Going out to buy some this afternoon.
