1. She doesn't need to contact anyone. All she has to do is
file Form 4868. Takes five minutes.

3. She doesn't need permission. She needs to google IRS forms for filing an extension and then fill it
out and mail it in before the 18th (extended this year).

But unless she pays up front,she will be charged interest and
penalties
if she ends up owing the gov'mnt.

5. go to the IRS website...
http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/index.html

And click on the form 4868. this is an automatic six month extension. You are still in the hook for the money and if you owe they will charge you interest but you will not be levied a fine for filling late if you file this form.
