My orthotics seem to be helping my plantar fasciitis.
About a year ago, plantar fasciitis reared its ugly head--or ugly foot--in my life.

I tried exercises (which helped but not enough), insoles/heel supports from stores, arch supports and a thingie to wear on my foot at night, but I didn't really get much help until I finally broke down and got some orthotics from the podiatrist.

Why did I wait so long, you may ask? Well, because I had to pay for them out of pocket--basically I have to pay for everything out of pocket, having an individual medical insurance plan with a high deductible. (Yes, I'm lucky I could afford to pay for them out of pocket.) Also, two people close to me had said orthotics didn't help them.

Anyway, last night I went to Walmart to buy a pole lamp and some cactus potting soil. Ordinarily shopping will make my p.f. flare up.

AND MY HEELS AREN'T SORE TODAY!!!

Oh, frabjous day! :-) :toast:

1. I dealt with this a couple of years ago..
There is a good site : http://heelspurs.com/index.html that I got information from.

I also followed the advice of wearing mostly running shoes and taping my foot. Another thing I did which you can do if you have steps anywhere in your house is stand with the front of your foot on the step and slowly step downward so that you are stretching your foot. And hold for about a minute.

Good luck with the recovery.

2. I have pain in my left heel sometimes...I wonder if that's what I have?
Glad to hear that you are feeling better!

3. Is it worse when you first get up in the morning, and then gets better?

If so, that sounds like p.f.

Thanx! :-)

4. Whooo, been there done that. My insurance doesn't pay for my
orthoses either, and each set (half-shoe and whole-shoe) was $300. But man, what a difference. I hike a lot and was not able to do so without lots of pain. Several shots straight into the plantar fascia (talk about pain--OMG) would help for a while, but then the fasciitis would come back. I love my orthoses.

5. Orthotics made all the difference for me, too.
I'm glad you are noticing improvement and getting relief!

I put off going for a while. My best friend was a nurse who had gone through the pain and eventually received a prescription for orthotics. She urged me to get to a podiatrist. So, happy ending for me too. :7

Don't neglect your feet, folks! They literally are your foundation.
:fistbump:

7. I got some for my shin splints.
Unfortunately they didn't fit in my athletic shoes. They did give me a pretty good model of what I needed to build. Plantar fasciitis sucks though I've had it as well. Glad you have found something to help.
