Trying to get cheaper insurance - this is crazy.
But not very surprising.

I have had Assurant for the last 2 years. $1500 deductible. They haven't paid a dime for me. I have paid for all medical visits myself.

I am 61 and pretty healthy - good thing since I pay $500 a month for insurance so can't afford any kind of medical care. No tests or anything like that but I do go if I get sick.

So last year I had a UTI. I went to the doctor and it took a couple of visits to get an antibiotic that worked for me. I paid for it my self. Then in November I felt like the UTI might be coming back so I went back to the doctor. Urinalysis was negative. I guess I drank too much orange juice. Doctor gave me more antibiotics to take just in case bacteria were there but just in such low numbers that they weren't showing up.

I think I am going to get denied for the new coverage. Same coverage, same company, different program. My old one has a 23 million cap. New one has 15 million cap.

New one would be $375 a month instead of $500.

My word. If I had gotten the flu or a bad cold I probably would have been considered completely uninsurable. Thank goodness I don't have diabetes or something.

1. OK, I don't get it ...
So you're thinking about switching coverage, but you think you'll be denied?

Either way, to be perfectly honest, $375 or $500 per month for 60+ years old, and a $1500 deductible sounds pretty good. I'm not an expert, but I would think most people your age would pay upwards of $650 per month with a deductible in the $3000-$5000 range.

2. I was thinking about getting a cheaper insurance from my BCBS but now I don't
know if I will try if they can deny me. Do you know that they can deny a person under the same Ins. company? Criminy. They really have people trapped.
And as far as what one may think is a bargain... people forget that most older people have less and less income every six months as rates rise for one thing or another yet they are supposed to continue to pay the same high cost for Health Insurance, which generally leaves them fearful of using it. I know. I am there.

3. Why do you think they'll deny you?
Have they given you any indication that they would?
It probably wouldn't hurt to apply for the cheaper policy. If it's denied, you can just keep your current policy, can't you?

4. I can just keep my current coverage if I am denied for the cheaper one.
Even though it is the same company they approached my application for the cheaper plan as a new application.

$100 a month would help me out a lot.
