High-heels, pumps and sandals cause long term foot pain

Taking care of one's feet, like ones's teeth, makes a big difference as one gets older.

Women should think twice before buying their next pair of high-heels or pumps, according to researchers at the Institute for Aging Research of Hebrew SeniorLife in a new study of older adults and foot problems.

The researchers found that the types of shoes women wear, specifically high-heels, pumps and sandals, may cause future hind-foot (heel and ankle) pain. Nearly 64 percent of women who reported hind-foot pain regularly wore these types of shoes at some point in their life.

"We found an increased risk of hind-foot pain among women who wore shoes, such as high-heels or pumps, that lack support and sound structure," says lead author Alyssa B. Dufour, a graduate student in the Institute's Musculoskeletal Research Program.

While foot pain is a common complaint in the U.S. adult population-foot and toe symptoms are among the top 20 reasons for physician visits among those 65 to 74 years of age-relatively little is known about the causes of foot pain in older adults. Women are more likely than men to have foot pain; however, it is not known if this is due to a higher prevalence of foot deformities, underlying disease, shoe wear, or other lifestyle choices.

2. No shit. Even poorly made flats and supposed "walking" shoes
can cause pain if they don't have enough arch support.

Sandals are a crime against humanity, lol. I get acute foot pain followed by nighttime leg cramps when I wear them.

5. I can't believe the high heels these stars and kids are wearing ~
I am a senior and I wore 1- 2 inch heels sometimes.

I've had two foot surgeries.

If that is what happened to me -- what will happen to Paris Hilton?

And, have you seen these women walk up stairs in this tower shoes -- I am afraid for them.

The shoes,IMO, are ugly for the most part and don't flatter the foot.

6. Utter Idiots
Heels used to be something you wore on dress occasions, not on a daily basis. With so many idiots wearing stuff that people used to wear in nightclubs only, it's no wonder people are having so many health issues. Women do not need to wear three inch long heels/stilettos to work and wear on a normal basis. Sensible heels should be in proportion to the shoe, not a wide shoe and a toothpick heel. Furthermore, people should also understand that celebrities dress differently because they are celebrities, not normal people.
