1. Well-intentioned...
...but a complete waste of time.

The argument against making health care a universal social provision is a theological argument, not a policy argument.

It doesn't depend on evidence -- it is, to the true believers, an article of faith, a revealed truth, that everything private is better than anything public. (Except for wars.)

If you give them anecdotes, they'll demand data.
If you give them data, they'll bombard you with anecdotes, about Canadian hip replacement wait times and British hospital infections.

You can't refute a theology.

In the old days, they addressed the problem with a stake, a pile of brushwood and tinder, and a box of medieval kitchen matches.
