So much is going into trying to preserve the existing for-profit model of health insurance. We need to see what it would cost if we abolished the private companies as the providers of primary health insurance.
Yes, at least let's see if single payer would cost less.

But if you count all costs, you're also going to have to count the cost of putting thousands (tens of thousands?) of people out of work who previously worked at low level jobs in the insurance industry. It's a double-edged sword.

Overall though, it's the right thing to do, it's the will of the vast majority of the people, and if Canada and the UK can do it then so can we. I fear it's too late though.
