The Newest Dangerous Sweetener to Hit Your Food Shelves... (Monsanto strikes again)
By Dr. Mercola

Since 2002 an artificial sweetener called neotame has been approved for use in food and drink products around the world, although so far its use appears to be very limited.

Neotame is a chemical derivative of aspartame, and judging by the chemicals used in its manufacturing, it appears even more toxic than aspartame, although the proponents of neotame claim that increased toxicity is not a concern, because less of it is needed to achieve the desired effect.

Neotame is bad science brought to you by the Monsanto Company.

If Monsano truly had nothing to fear with either of these artificial chemical sweeteners, they would have funded rigorous independent testing for safety. To date they have not, and they won't, because virtually every independent analysis of aspartame not conducted by Monsanto partners has revealed a long list of disturbing side effects, mostly neurological in nature.

Monsanto also has now sold the NutraSweet Company to someone else, but the approval of neotame came under Monsanto's ownership, and was most likely a result of Monsanto's cozy relationship with the FDA. More about that in a minute. / snip

3. Mercola is an idiotic quack.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest considers neotame safe.

4. Mercola as source = instant discrediting
Try to find someone without a quack agenda to sell his own products.

5. Dr. Mercola is an idiot
If companies create something that kills people, and then sell it, aren't they killing all of their potential customers? Monsanto may be an evil profit-driven entity, but they're not trying to kill us.

Sweet Jesus that Mercola is an idiot. And guess what - he's trying to sell you something.

7. Not immediately.
Some of the harmful things that they sell do not kill immediately, but contribute to health problems that can take a long time to kill. Hence the argument of killing of potential customers does not stand up. Some of these people can be potential customers for years at a healthy profit for Monsanto before a person gets really sick.

6. I would trust Dr Mercola more than I would trust Monsanto.
Some of what Mercola says is correct; some of it is not, and is way off base. The only way to figure this out is to look for supporting studies to the things he claims.

The easiest solution is just to cut out sugar.

What bothers me about this, is that it will be listed just as a sweetener or not at all, so that people who want to avoid it, do not know if it is in food or not. Best solution - don't eat manufactured food.

9. Despite all these people dissing him, I totally agree with you. Some of the stuff
he presents have good info, based on science. I never buy his products, but as you say, look for supporting info. It must be sad having such a closed, inflexible mind. :hi:

16. Verfiy.
I have learned some things on that site, borne out by other research, that has helped my health.

But, I have also disagreed with a bunch of other his stuff.

And I won't touch his products.

But I take whatever information I can from a number of different sources - the only way to learn.
