At around 8 a.m. Monday morning, ASBSU Secretary Debby Flores discovered a strange white envelope on her keyboard. Upon opening it, she found a letter threatening the life of ASBSU presidential candidate Taylor Newbold.

Boise City Police arrived at the scene and took the letter for evidence.

Newbold said he has never received a death threat before, and he is taking this letter very seriously.

This is not the first time Newbold has been harassed due to his sexual orientation at Boise State. In April of last year, swastikas and the word "fag" were drawn all over a picture that hung near the student activities office. He filled a police report, but the culprit was never caught.

After the last incident the university didn't do much of anything. As president of the gay organization on campus here in Boise, I plan to force the issue.
I plan to contact the only openly gay legislator to ever be elected to an Idaho house of congress, Nicole Lefavour, about this issue to see if she'd be willing to push for hate crimes protection for gays and lesbians on the state level. There's a very good chance that that won't happen, but at least we can show the Boise State administration and the legislature here in Idaho that someone out there is watching everything they do.
